Prince's dad Cecil was the king for the Tigers from 1990-96. Here, 6-year-old Prince, with Dad and mom Stacey, shows off a historic ball the night his father hit home run Nos. 50 and 51 on the last day of the 1990 season.

The kid, around 9 here, was a fixture around the Tigers clubhouse and field. After Prince hit a ball into the upper deck at age 12, Alan Trammel (pictured) said: "He had always been a big kid, but this showed that he had the hand-eye coordination and the athletic ability to be a baseball player." Prince was pretty proud of the blast: "I ran in and told everybody in the clubhouse. Probably everybody in Michigan. I was definitely shocked."
 

Cecil took little Prince to a Detroit Lions game. Father and son seemed inseparable back then. Young Fielder seems to have taken fashion inspiration from Rerun of "What's Happening!!"

Prince has been described as a youngster as "playful, happy kid," a "sweet boy" and a "hard worker" by the adults around him growing up. He recalls hanging out in the Tigers clubhouse as a lad and being thrown in the trash can by Tigers outfielders Pete Incaviglia and Tony Phillips. The latter also snuck young Prince candy when Cecil wasn't looking.

Prince remembers the late, great Tigers manager Sparky Anderson telling him he would get to pinch hit, but realizing the skipper was kidding. "I was really mad," Fielder said. "'Cause I asked my dad every day, 'Sparky said I was going to hit!' He was like, 'Yeah, OK, tomorrow.' That tomorrow was like five years, a couple years. So (I knew) it's not going to happen."

Prince, shown at age 9, in Lakeland, Fla., during Tigers spring training in 1994, was described by legendary Tigers broadcaster Ernie Harwell as a "terrifically big boy."

Cecil and Prince Fielder starred in a 1992 McDonald's commercial. Prince has since become a vegetarian.

Prince, a highly touted 18-year-old with the minor-league Beloit (Wisconsin) Snappers, chats with dad Cecil in the dugout before a game in 2002. The father-son relationship went south about two years later after an ugly divorce between Cecil and Prince's mother Stacey. Cecil allegedly squandered the family fortune gambling. Prince has said "my father is dead to me." Although Cecil claimed on MLB Network Radio that he and his son were have talked and things are better, Prince continues to deflect questions about his dad.

Prince is now the father to two young sons who are his spitting image. Haven, left, and Jadyn help him accept his 2011 All-Star Game MVP award.

Things came full circle on Jan. 26, 2012, when Prince was introduced as the newest Detroit Tiger, with son Jadyn by his side.
