High schooler Jack Jablonski as at Target Field to throw out the first pitch before a game between the Minnesota Twins and the visiting New York Yankees on Sept. 24, 2012. It was just nine months after the teen suffered a hockey injury that left him paralyzed.

Twins first baseman Justin Morneau visited Jablonski in the hospital a few months after his injury. Morneau, a big hockey fan, signed hats for Jablonski and his younger brother, Max, as well as a baseball bat. And Morneau was behind the plate as Jablonski delivered the first pitch before the game. The Minnesota Twins Wives Organization, who presented a $10,000 check for the Jack Jablonski Fund, joined Jablonski in front of the Target Field pitcher's mound.

American hero John Glenn tossed out the ceremonial first pitch before the Indians played the Yankees on Aug. 26, 2012. He was celebrating the 50th anniversary of his historic space flight on Feb. 20, 1962. Glenn, 91, was the first American to orbit the Earth in 1962. He asked the crowd for a moment of silence to honor Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, who died the day before, at age 82. Glenn and Hall of Fame Boston Red Sox slugger Ted Williams flew missions together during the Korean War. Glenn later became a US senator from his native Ohio.

Carey Rottman was shot in the back part of his upper right thigh by gunman James Holmes in the Aurora, Colo., theater shooting on July 20, 2012. The bullets damaged nearly 50 percent of Rottman's quad muscle. The Wisconsin native was all smiles when he threw out the first pitch at Coors Field on Aug. 13, 2012. Read more.

Four-year-old Micah Andrews threw out the first pitch before a D-backs game on July 24, 2012, accompanied by Dr. Nicholas Theodore, the man who saved his life. Andrews was critically injured in an automobile accident in Phoenix two years ago in which Micah's skull was separated from his spine. Afer his inspirational first pitch Dr. Theodore said: "I would call this a miracle, absolutely." Read more.

Tom Willis, who was born without hands, is hoping to visit all 30 major league stadiums as part of his Pitch for Awareness national tour, to promote an understanding that people with disabilities are capable of doing more than others perceive. Willis uses his feet to toss a rubber ball that is about 2/3 the size of a regulation baseball. Read more.
