Canseco and Oakland A's teammate Mark McGwire were known as the Bash Brothers during their 1980s heyday.

In April 2011, the Yuma Scorpions of the independent North American League, named Jose Canseco manager and his twin brother Ozzie Canseco bench coach and hitting coach for the team in. Both brothers have also played for the team. Canseco previously played for the Long Beach Armada before being sued by the team for breach of contract.
