San Diego Padres @ Chicago Cubs

Scheduled Start Time: 8:05 PM ET

Wrigley Field

(Sports Network) - The San Diego Padres hope they still have some runs left in them after a recent rout of the Chicago Cubs as the two clubs resume a four- game series Wednesday from Wrigley Field.

After the Cubs took the opener of this series on Monday, the Padres followed with a 13-7 victory the next night. Carlos Quentin, Yonder Alonso and Nick Hundley all homered and finished with three hits to power the Padres. Quentin scored three times and both Alonso and Hundley had two runs scored.

'You know, when you get a combination of power and two-out hits, all the way up and down the lineup,' said Hundley. 'Everybody got involved, so everybody's dropping in runs and it's contagious.'

Jedd Gyorko ended with two hits and a pair of RBI for San Diego, which pounded out 17 hits and has been playing better of late with five wins in six tries.

Padres starter Edinson Volquez had an RBI, while allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings on the mound.

Former Cub Andrew Cashner gets the nod for the Padres Wednesday and he is 1-1 with a 3.26 earned run average in seven games (2 starts) this season. Before Cashner was traded to the west coast, he was drafted by the Cubs in the first round (19th overall) of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. Cashner earned a win his last time out in a 2-1 win over San Francisco on Friday and held the defending World Series champions to a run in six innings.

Cashner has faced the Cubs twice in a relief role and has no record and a lofty 9.00 ERA in that time, spanning just two innings.

'My first start with the Padres (at Wrigley), but it's just another game,' Cashner said. 'You don't treat it any different. You don't get too up or too down. You try to just stay the same every start you make.'

The Cubs hope to rattle their former pitcher in hopes of getting back on the winning track. They had won four of five games until Tuesday's lopsided loss in which starter Edwin Jackson fell to 0-4 after giving up eight runs and 11 hits in just 4 2/3 innings.

Hector Rondon permitted four more runs in relief.

Luis Valbuena and Starlin Castro both hit two-run homers, while David DeJesus and Cody Ransom each had solo shots for the Cubs. DeJesus was awarded a home run after a quick review by the umpires. He lined a 1-2 pitch off the electronic scoreboard in right field and was held up at second with a double.

'We got guys swinging the bats pretty good,' said Cubs manager Dale Sveum. 'We just got to get our right-handed hitters going against right-handed pitching.'

Chicago, which is 1-1 so far on a 10-game homestand, will turn to Scott Feldman Wednesday and he is coming off his first win of the season. Feldman had dropped his first three starts until besting the Marlins in Miami on Friday with 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball in a 4-2 decision.

The right-hander has allowed 16 runs this season, nine earned.

Feldman, who is 1-3 in four starts with a 3.92 ERA, owns a 1-1 record with a 5.40 ERA in two career games, one of which was a start, against the Padres.

Chicago and San Diego split six matchups a season ago and both teams posted three-game sweeps as the host. The Cubs and Padres also split six meetings in 2011.
