New York Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles

Scheduled Start Time: 7:05 PM ET

Oriole Park at Camden Yards

(Sports Network) - Phil Hughes tries to bounce back from an awful showing on Tuesday when the New York Yankees continue a three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.

Hughes was lit up by the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday to the tune of seven runs and six hits with two walks in just two-thirds of an inning, as he fell to 2-3 and raised his ERA more than a run to 5.88.

'It seems to go by pretty quick,' Hughes said. 'Everything kind of speeds up. You're just trying to find something, and next thing you know, you've got two outs and seven runs are in. It's tough.'

The start was the shortest by a Yankee since Bartolo Colon allowed six runs and also recorded two outs on July 14, 2011, against the Blue Jays in Toronto.

'Hopefully, this is a 1-in-100 type thing,' Hughes said. 'I remember I've had bad nights where I'd get 12 outs or something, but I don't think I can remember having an outing like this before.

'It's tough to swallow, but it happens to everybody. No one's going to feel sorry for you, so I have to throw my bullpen in two days and move on.'

Hughes lasted just three innings in a loss to Baltimore back on April 13, but is 6-5 lifetime against them with a 5.47 ERA in 18 games (15 starts).

Baltimore, meanwhile, will counter with righty Miguel Gonzalez, who will return from the disabled list and make his first start since May 3. He had been sidelined with a blister on his thumb and is 2-2 with a 4.58 ERA on the year.

Gonzalez lost to the Yankees earlier in the year, but is 2-1 in three starts against them with a 2.75 ERA.

New York needed some dramatics to take Monday's opener, as Vernon Wells doubled home the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning to lift the Yankees to a 6-4 win.

The Yankees belted four solo home runs, with the last one by Travis Hafner tying the game in the ninth. The one-out blast to left field was served up by Baltimore closer Jim Johnson, who suffered his third consecutive blown save after converting a club-record 35 straight.

After David Robertson (3-0) shut down the Orioles in the bottom of the ninth, New York quickly jumped on Pedro Strop (0-2).

Ichiro Suzuki ripped a pitch into the right-field corner for a leadoff double and Wells followed with a hit that bounced over the left-field wall. Wells later scored on a two-out single by Hafner.

Mariano Rivera tossed a flawless bottom of the 10th to collect his 17th save of the season.

Robinson Cano, David Adams and Lyle Overbay also homered for the Yankees, who have won three straight games and 10 of their last 13.

Baltimore has lost a season-high six in a row. The Orioles have also dropped seven straight at home for the first time since an 11-game slide Aug. 22-Sept. 7, 2007.

'We have a challenge ahead of us,' Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. 'But our guys will turn the page, show up and be ready.'

Cano is batting .431 with 11 homers and 25 RBI in his last 40 regular-season games at Camden Yards.

New York took two of three from the Orioles at home earlier this season and went 7-4 at Camden Yards in 2012, including the teams' AL Division Series matchup.
