San Diego Padres @ Seattle Mariners

Scheduled Start Time: 10:10 PM ET

SAFECO Field

(Sports Network) - Dominican righty Edinson Volquez can stay unbeaten in his career against Seattle on Tuesday night when the San Diego Padres visit the Mariners for the second of two interleague games at Safeco Field.

The teams will continue the matchup with two games at San Diego's Petco Park on Wednesday and Thursday.

Volquez, who won 11 games in his initial season with the Padres last year, is 3-0 against the Mariners in six career matchups - including five starts - with a solid 2.67 earned run average in 30 1/3 innings.

He's allowed 28 hits and a .235 opposition batting average.

Volquez dropped his initial three decisions of 2013 before winning three in a row between April 24 and May 5. He's 0-2 with a no-decision in three subsequent outings, however, including a 10-2 loss to St. Louis on May 21.

In that game, the Cardinals tagged him for five runs on eight hits in six innings and swelled his season ERA from 5.55 to 5.76.

Seattle replies with young righty Brandon Maurer, who makes the 10th start of his rookie season.

The 22-year-old was 2-3 after a 6-0 defeat of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on April 25, but has since gone 0-3 with a no-decision in four starts.

He had his second-roughest outing as a big-leaguer on May 22 against the Angels while allowing seven runs on 11 hits in three innings of a 7-1 loss.

He lasted just two-thirds of an inning of a 16-9 loss to Houston on April 9, giving up six runs on seven hits.

On Monday, Aaron Harang pitched his seventh career shutout as the Mariners blanked the Padres, 9-0.

Harang (2-5), who came into the game with an 8.58 ERA, allowed just four hits and two walks in his 13th career complete game and first since 2009, when he was a member of the Reds.

'He hit the spots all day,' said Mariners manager Eric Wedge. 'Did a great job with his fastball. Thought he did a nice job of dropping that breaking ball in there from time to time to keep them honest. Just did a great job controlling the ballgame.'

Michael Morse hit a three-run home run, Jason Bay and Kelly Shoppach each had solo shots and Kendrys Morales drove in two runs in the victory.

San Diego starter Clayton Richard (0-5), who was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list prior to the game, gave up five runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings.

'It was a rough start,' said Richard. 'They were able to jump on some pitches that weren't executed as well but that's baseball. Really, you have to give them some credit because it just didn't go our way.'

San Diego won five of six games with the Mariners in 2012, while Seattle did the same - winning five of six - to take the season series in 2011.
