Toronto Blue Jays @ San Diego Padres

Scheduled Start Time: 10:10 PM ET

Petco Park

(Sports Network) - One night after their marathon opener, the Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres get right back at it with the second test of their three-game set from Petco Park.

On Friday, Jedd Gyorko drove in a pair and scored the tying run in the fifth inning.

Twelve innings later, he scored the winning run, as well.

Jesus Guzman knocked him in from second base in the bottom of the 17th inning, as San Diego outlasted Toronto, 4-3.

Gyorko had three of the Padres' nine hits, with his last coming on a sharp liner off the third base bag with one out in final frame.

Clayton Richard (1-5), who was supposed to start Saturday, pitched two scoreless innings of relief before laying down a sac bunt.

'We took Clayton's start tomorrow out of the equation and decided to use him tonight and go for the W,' said Padres manager Bud Black.

Gyorko moved to second on the sacrifice and Guzman, who was 0-for-3 to that point, lined a base hit up the middle to score the winning run and lift the Padres to their third win in four games.

Todd Redmond (0-1) pitched 3 2/3 innings out of the bullpen for Toronto, which mustered just three singles over the last 10 innings of play.

Each team used eight pitchers, with San Diego's bullpen at one point retiring 17 straight batters from the end of the seventh through the 12th inning.

So instead of Richard, San Diego turns to lefty Robbie Erlin, who will be making his first big league start. Erlin has pitched twice out of the bullpen this season has given up two runs in two innings of work.

Toronto, meanwhile, will turn to someone with a bit more experience in lefty Mark Buehrle, who won for the first time in eight starts on Monday. Buehrle beat Atlanta in that one, limiting them to a run and five hits in six innings to improve to 2-3,m while lowering his ERA to 5.51.

'Everything's been down in the zone, so when you're down in the zone pretty much the only thing they can do with it is hit it down,' Buehrle told the team's official website. 'It's always good when I'm getting ground balls instead of fly balls - I'll take fly-ball outs - but when they're hitting the ball on the ground, that's kind of my game.'

He's faced the Padres twice, going 1-0 with a 0.54 ERA in those starts.

Toronto has won four of six games across two interleague series with the Padres, winning two of three in California in 2004 and two of three again there in 2010.
