New York Mets @ Miami Marlins

Scheduled Start Time: 4:10 PM ET

Marlins Park

(Sports Network) - Mets fans surely remember what occurred on this date one year ago.

It was well before Collin McHugh made his major league debut. This afternoon, McHugh looks for his first victory when the New York Mets continue their series with the Miami Marlins.

On June 1, 2012, Johan Santana threw the first no-hitter in Mets history in a win against St. Louis. McHugh didn't make his MLB debut until Aug. 23 that season. The 25-year-old right-hander is 0-4 in 10 career games, including four starts. This will be his third appearance of 2013 and his first start.

Rookie right-hander Jose Fernandez tries to bounce back from the shortest outing of his career when he takes the mound this afternoon for the Marlins.

Fernandez lasted just 3 1/3 innings on Monday against the Rays in a 10-6 loss. The 20-year-old, a first-round draft pick in 2011, surrendered seven runs -- four earned -- on five hits and three walks. He did have six strikeouts, but is winless in his last three outings.

This will be Fernandez's third start against the Mets. His major league debut came April 7 at Citi Field, but he's yet to factor in the decision in the two previous starts.

Even though he doesn't have a decision so far at Marlins Park, Fernandez has pitched well at home. He has an ERA of 2.05 and has limited opponents to a .190 batting average.

Last night, Jacob Turner turned in seven scoreless innings in his season debut and Ed Lucas' first major league hit opened up the scoring in a four-run seventh, as the reeling Marlins ended their lengthy losing streak with 5-1 victory.

The 31-year-old Lucas was spending his 10th season in the minors before making his major league debut on Thursday. A day later, he broke up a scoreless tie when his shallow fly ball into center fell in for a single.

Jeff Mathis added a sac fly and Jordan Brown had a pinch-hit two-run double later on in the frame to help the Marlins snap their season-worst nine-game skid.

'They stay positive, keep grinding it out,' Marlins manager Mike Redmond said.

Turner (1-0) scattered just five hits and struck out three in his 10th major league start. Marcell Ozuna extended the longest active hitting streak in the majors to 16 games with a 3-for-4 performance. He also knocked in a run.

New York was coming in riding a season-high five-game winning streak after posting its first ever sweep of the New York Yankees in the Subway Series, but struggled to manufacture any offense down in Miami.

Daniel Murphy had two hits and drove in the Mets' only run. Shaun Marcum (0-6) surrendered all four runs during the seventh to take the loss. He gave up seven hits over 6 2/3 innings.

'Tonight we didn't get any big hits and we didn't mount much anyway,' Mets manager Terry Collins said. 'When we had guys in scoring position, we certainly didn't drive (them) in.'

New York has won four of the seven meetings in 2013.
