Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Diego Padres

Scheduled Start Time: 4:10 PM ET

Petco Park

(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Dodgers target a series split with the San Diego Padres when the two NL West inhabitants close out a four-game set Sunday at Petco Park.

The Dodgers dropped the first two portions of this series, but rebounded with Saturday's 6-1 victory behind a strong performance from starting pitcher Zack Greinke. The right-hander made his return to Petco Park, where he suffered a broken left collarbone during a melee with Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin back in April.

Greinke struck out eight batters, walked one and permitted just a run and four hits in eight innings. Quentin, who played for the first time since June 14 because of a balky shoulder, went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts, but Greinke was the highlight of the game.

'His stuff seemed normal. He wasn't overpowering, it just seemed like he was on the corners all night and he was able to change speeds,' Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said of Greinke.

Adrian Gonzalez and Hanley Ramirez each hit solo homers and Skip Schumaker had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Dodgers, who won for just the fourth time in the last 13 tries.

The Dodgers are 3-5 on a nine-game road trip and will return to Chavez Ravine for seven straight versus San Francisco and Philadelphia.

Slated to take the mound for L.A. Sunday on short days' rest is Chris Capuano. Capuano defeated the New York Yankees on Wednesday with six shutout innings and halted a three-game winless streak (0-2). Capuano was coming off a stint on the disabled list and hadn't pitched since May 29.

The left-hander is 2-4 with a 4.62 earned run average in nine games (7 starts) this season and has an 0-1 record to go along with a 9.64 ERA in three games (1 start) against the Padres this season. Capuano has faced San Diego 15 times, 12 of which have been starts, and is 5-5 lifetime with a 3.88 ERA.

San Diego dropped to 3 1/2 games off the NL West lead with Saturday's loss and couldn't muster much off of Greinke. Chase Headley led the Padres with two hits and Jesus Guzman had the lone RBI for San Diego, which had won two straight and nine of 11 games.

Edinson Volquez allowed five runs -- two earned -- in 5 2/3 innings and issued seven walks with seven strikeouts. He flirted with a no-hitter until things unraveled after the fourth inning.

'He pitched so well with the fastball coming in. He had a few walks before, but it looked as though his fastball was just missing. He just couldn't land a strike in there,' Padres manager Bud Black said of Volquez.

The Padres had an eight-game home winning streak stopped and are 2-1 on a seven-game homestand, which continues Monday in the opener of a three-game series versus the Phillies.

Andrew Cashner will handle pitching duties for the Padres Sunday and he has won four of his last five decisions. Cashner, though, gave up a season-high 10 hits and three runs in 6 2/3 innings of Tuesday's 5-4 loss at San Francisco and did not receive a decision.

The right-handed Cashner is 5-3 in 16 games (11 starts) with a 3.56 ERA. He is also 4-1 at home, but 0-1 in 11 career relief appearances against the Dodgers.

San Diego has won seven of its 12 matchups with the Dodgers this season.
