Miami Marlins @ Milwaukee Brewers

Scheduled Start Time: 8:10 PM ET

Miller Park

(Sports Network) - Veteran right-hander Kyle Lohse can erase the memories of a difficult first half on Friday night when the Milwaukee Brewers host the Miami Marlins to open a three-game series at Miller Park.

A 16-game winner with St. Louis last season, Lohse signed a free agent deal with the Brewers shortly before the outset of this year's schedule and struggled to just one win in his initial seven decisions.

He won four straight between June 9-July 8 to get to 5-6 on the season, but was beaten, 5-4, at Arizona in his final start before the All-Star break on July 13 after allowing five runs on four hits in 6 1/3 innings of work.

Lohse didn't face Miami when the Brewers visited them for three games last month, but he's 5-2 against the Marlins in nine career starts with a 4.33 earned run average in 54 innings.

The 34-year-old is 3-2 in eight 2013 starts at Miller Park.

He's opposed by 22-year-old righty Jacob Turner, who won three of four decisions across eight starts in the season's first half.

A former first-round pick of the Detroit Tigers, Turner began his major league career in the American League before heading to South Florida in the middle of 2012.

He was just 1-4 in seven starts with the Marlins to close out last season, but won his 2013 debut with seven scoreless innings against the New York Mets and went on to defeat San Diego on June 29 and Atlanta on July 10.

Against the Braves in his final pre-break appearance, he allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings of a 6-2 win.

Turner's lone career appearance against the Brewers came June 11, when he allowed four runs in seven innings of a game Miami ultimately won, 5-4.

On Sunday in Miami, Denard Span broke a tie game in the 10th inning and led the Washington Nationals to a 5-2 win against the Marlins to avoid a three- game sweep.

Steve Cishek (3-5) gave up a run for the first time in 18 appearances, a streak that spanned 16 1/3 innings, to take the loss. Cishek, who won Saturday's game, gave up three runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings.

'I really wanted to finish on a strong note for the first half,' Cishek said.

Derek Dietrich homered for Miami, which had three straight wins.

In Arizona, Wily Peralta pitched seven innings of one-run ball and the Brewers avoided a four-game sweep against the Diamondbacks with a 5-1 victory.

Peralta (7-9), who was coming off a shutout against the Reds on Tuesday, gave up seven hits and a pair of walks while striking out eight in his outing. He has allowed just one run over his last three starts.

Logan Schafer hit a solo homer and knocked in two runs for the Brewers (38-56), who entered the All-Star break last in the NL Central. Carlos Gomez also drove in two runs and Martin Maldonado added an RBI.

'A lot of good things happened,' said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. 'Wily looked good, we came out swinging the bats. Any time we can get three runs in early and we feel like we have enough pitching to keep him there, it should turn out well, and it did.'

Milwaukee won two of three games when they most recently played at Marlins Park in June.
