Seattle Mariners @ Texas Rangers

Scheduled Start Time: 8:05 PM ET

Globe Life Park in Arlington

(SportsNetwork.com) - Blake Beavan makes his season debut for the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, as they continue their four-game series versus the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park.

Beavan, filling in for the injured James Paxton, was a first-round pick of the Rangers back in 2004, but was eventually shipped to Seattle as part of the Cliff Lee trade in 2010.

The 25-year-old won 11 games for the Mariners in 2012, but struggled last season, going 0-2 with a 6.13 ERA before being sent to the minors. It wasn't any better for him this spring, as he pitched to a 6.46 ERA in 23 2/3 Cactus League innings.

In two starts for Triple-A Tacoma, though, he was 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA.

'It's kind of the old saying, 'Everything happens for a reason, right?'' said Beavan. 'It's nice to be home. It's awful nice to be back with the big league club. That's the main goal. It doesn't really matter if we are in California or Texas, I'd rather be wearing this (uniform) than Tacoma.'

Beavan is 3-3 with a 2.84 ERA in six starts and one relief appearance against the Rangers in his career.

Texas, meanwhile, will counter with righty Robbie Ross Jr., who is still searching for his first win, despite his 1.74 ERA. Ross was terrific against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday, holding them to just two hits and unearned run in 5 1/3 innings of his team's 4-2 loss.

Ross, who has also yet to allow a walk in 10 1/3 innings this season, will be making his first-ever start against the Mariners. He has faced them 12 times out of the bullpen and is 0-1 with a 2.03 ERA against them.

Seattle got the best of the Rangers in Monday's opener, as it rode a big inning to a 7-1 triumph.

Mike Zunino clubbed a solo home run and added an RBI single during Seattle's six-run sixth that featured three Texas errors and the ejection of Rangers manager Ron Washington for arguing a replay result.

Seattle rookie Roenis Elias (1-1) picked up his first major league win after allowing a run on five hits with two walks in 6 2/3 innings.

Colby Lewis (0-1) gave up four runs -- three earned -- on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings in his first start for Texas since July 18, 2012. Lewis, who had his contract purchased from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday, missed time after undergoing surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow and a right hip resurfacing procedure.

'Colby was good. He had a good breaking ball, was able to spot his fastball. Happy to have him back,' Washington said.

Texas went 12-7 against the M's last year and held a 103-62 edge in runs scored.

In celebration of Jackie Robinson Day, players from both teams will all wear No. 42.
