What it means: JDRF was the first non-profit to partner with Bow Tie Cause and was a result of Dhani Jones' friendship with Fernando Aguirre, the president/CEO of Chiquita Brands International. The bow tie was designed by Fernando's son Fabrizio, who has juvenile diabetes. It symbolizes the ups and downs of juvenile diabetes and incorporates the official colors of JDRF.

What it means: Ferdinand's Ball is an annual fundraiser in honor of the 1986 Kentucky Derby winner and 1987 horse of the year, who was sent to slaughter in Japan. The tie was designed using the colors of the silks worn by Ferdinand's jockey Bill Shoemaker.

Ken Rosenthal interviews Texas Rangers star Michael Young about his involvement in the charity Wipe Out Kids Cancer. Young works with Children's Medical Center in Dallas, which is part of the Woodmark Group, a national association of 25 North American pediatric hospitals.

Ken also chats with injured Phillies closer Brad Lidge, who works closely the another Woodmark facility — Children's Hospital of Philadelphia — providing game tickets for the young patients there.

Even though the Most Valuable Kids bow tie has the same color scheme as the San Francisco Giants, Aubrey Huff still gave our Ken Rosenthal a tough time.

What it means: The Bengals MVK Bow Tie supports Most Valuable Kids, an organization dedicated to providing access to sports and entertainment for under-served children. Through a program called Dhani's BowTie Guys, Dhani Jones hosted 10 underprivileged young men to every Bengals home game during the 2010-2011 season. At the end of the season, close to 100 boys and their families attended a banquet.

What it means: The Breakthrough bow tie came about via Dhani Jones involvement with Breakthrough Cincinnati where he mentors three students and sits on the board of directors. Breakthrough Cincinnati is an affiliate of the Breakthrough Collaborative national network, which uses its “students-teaching-students” model to launch motivated middle-school students on the path to college and to prepare older students for careers in education. The bow tie's design represents the fundamentals of the program: academic rigor, especially in reading, math and science; and a focus on college-prep and graduation.

Dhani Jones is a Global Envoy for Lance Armstrong's LIVESTRONG, which works to identify the issues faced by cancer survivors in order to comprehensively improve quality of life for members of the global cancer community. Here, he helps Armstrong look sharp with the LIVESTRONG bow tie.

Ken interviews Red Sox pitcher and cancer survivor Jon Lester about his involvement with LIVESTRONG, his current health status and the importance of awareness. Lester wears special a special yellow glove and yellow shoes in July to promote and support LIVESTRONG. He also taped a LIVESTRONG PSA.

What it means: The bow tie for Lance Armstrong's LIVESTRONG was created in August 2010 when Dhani Jones became a LIVESTRONG Global Envoy, committing to cancer activism and using his voice and public platform to inspire individuals and rally support. The yellow circles represent the familiar LIVESTRONG bracelets. The spokes in each circle represent the wheels of a bicycle and are symbolic of bringing everyone together to the center in the fight against cancer, as Dhani and Lance did when they visited the Abramson Cancer Center in Philly.

When Ken wore it: Aug. 6 at the Red Sox-Yankees MLB on FOX Saturday Baseball Game of the Week broadcast.

Ken Rosenthal interviews Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon about his involvement in promoting prostate cancer awareness and testing, and how the disease has affected those close to him, including his father and colleagues Joe Torre and Dusty Baker. Maddon is also involved in community projects, helping to integrate a growing Hispanic population in his hometown of Hazleton, Pa.

What it means: The Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation bow tie was inspired by John DiPippa, a professor at the Clinton School of Public Service and dean of the Bowen School of Law. DiPippa was diagnosed with prostate cancer in January 2009 and underwent surgery two months later to remove his prostate. An avid cyclist, he participated in a 100-mile bike ride just six months after his surgery. Dean DiPippa is an advocate and board member for APCF. The design utilizes the colors of APCF and represents men connected and standing together in the fight against prostate cancer.

When Ken wore it: Aug. 13 at the Yankess-Rays MLB on FOX Saturday Baseball Game of the Week broadcast.

Ken Rosenthal talks with Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand about overcoming the odds in his recovery from a spinal injury suffered on the field last season.

What it means: The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a national organization that serves neighbors in need, regardless of race or religious affiliation. When difficult situations arise — a lost job, an illness or unexpected expense — the most basic necessities like food, shelter, medicine, clothing and transportation can become impossible to afford. Practical, person-to-person care offered in a respectful and loving way can make a world of difference to those in need. This BowTie was chosen for SVDP Cincinnati from the line of Dhani's bow ties to go along with a fashion fundraiser called Retrofittings.

What it means: Ray Dussault, a teacher in Philadelphia, won the FOXSports.com BowTie Design Challenge. The final creation was a mix of two designs that Ray submitted and Dhani combined to successfully transfer it to a bow tie. In Ray's words, "the design was inspired by blending the American flag with America's pastime." He believes these two aspects combine to create a fitting tribute to both the final regular season MLB on FOX Saturday Game of the Week and to the value of patriotism. We agree. The Scoliosis Research Society tie Ken (pictured with MLB executive VP baseball operations Joe Torre during the game's rain delay) wore for Game 1 of the ALCS on FOX is in honor of his 15-year-old daughter Sarah, who recently underwent surgery to correct curvature of the spine. It's a condition Ken is all-to-familiar with. In an amazing twist of fate, Sarah's surgeon was someone from Ken's past. Read the whole amazing story here.

What it means: The Scoliosis Research Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to education, research and treatment of spinal deformity. The bow tie was designed by Dr. Lloyd Hey’s daughter, Sarah, who adapted the pattern from the original SRS logo created in 1966. Dr. Hey is a leading spinal surgeon and Sarah Hey is an art and psychology major at the University of North Carolina.

When Ken wore it: Saturday, Oct. 8 at Game 1 of the ALCS on FOX between the Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers in Arlington, Texas.

Who he wore it for: In honor of his own daughter Sarah, who recently underwent surgery to correct curvature of the spine; out of gratitude to Dr. Hey; and in tribute to all those children and adults who are affected by spinal deformity.

SUTC is MLB's official charity and it also hits close to home for Ken Rosenthal, who wore the SUTC tie in memory of his uncle, Dr. Fred Sheftell, and in support of his father, Ed Rosenthal.

Before the game, Ken chatted with Yankees CF Curtis Granderson, who is passionate about his own charity, the Grand Kids Foundation, which supports inner city education.

At the 82nd All-Star Game on July 12 at Chase Field, fans walking through the gates each received a placard that read: "I STAND FOR ________". After the sixth inning, the capacity crowd stood united in the quest to cure cancer in our lifetimes. Fans, who had filled in the blank with the name of a loved one affected by cancer, raised up their signs and told the world about that person. In this way, Major League Baseball and its fans made a major statement for Stand Up To Cancer.

What it means: SU2C's mission is to accelerate groundbreaking cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives. The goal is to bring together the best and the brightest in the cancer community, encouraging collaboration instead of competition. By galvanizing the entertainment industry, SU2C creates awareness and builds broad public support for this effort. MLB supports SU2C all season.

When Ken wore it: Oct. 9 at Game 2 of the ALCS on FOX; July 12 at the All-Star Game on FOX; and at the May 14  Red Sox-Yankees and June 11 Cubs-Phillies MLB on FOX Saturday Baseball Game of the Week broadcasts.

Who he's wearing it for: In memory of his uncle, Dr. Fred Sheftell, and in support of his father, Ed Rosenthal. Also for Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew.

Ken Rosenthal interviews New York Mets GM Sandy Alderson about his service as a Marine. Alderson did a tour of duty in Vietnam. On Memorial Day he will lay a wreath at teh Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum to honor veterans.

What it means: Joining Forces was launched and spearheaded by first lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden to support military families. The national initiative mobilizes all sectors of society to give service members and their families the opportunities and support they have earned. The military has a special place in Dhani Jones' heart as both of his parents were in the Navy — his mother as an anesthesiologist and his dad as a Naval Commander.

When Ken wore it: Oct. 12 at Game 4 of the ALCS between the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers in Detroit; Memorial Day weekend, May 28 at Phillies-Mets and July 2 at Yankees-Mets. Both games were MLB on FOX Saturday Baseball Game of the Week.

Who he wore it for: US military active duty and veterans and their families.

The same weekend Ken wore the BTN LiveBIG bow tie, Dhani Jones decided to retire after 11 years in the NFL. He spoke to FOX 19 in Cincinnati about his career and his decision to hang up his spikes. Jones, a Michigan alum, will now focus on off-the-field endeavors, including his weekly series BTN LiveBIG and BowTie Cause.

The Rangers tasted success on Oct. 15 (the night Ken wore the Dress for Success bow tie), when they clinched the American League Championship. Ken Rosenthal spoke with the champs immediately after the game. Of course, they had T-shirts pre-made and ready to wear for their special moment.

What it means: The signature 9/11 Memorial bow tie was created to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The "REUNITE" theme is key to the New York's 9/11 Memorial, which opened at the site of the Twin Towers on Sept. 12. This tie has special relevance to both Ken Rosenthal and Dhani Jones. As a New Yorker, Ken grew up with a passion for the city and recently returned to live there after 23 years in Baltimore. Dhani Jones made his way to NYC through the NFL Draft, when he was selected in 2000 by the New York Giants. "This city raised me and added a great chapter to my life," says Jones. "I love this city."

When Ken wore it: Game 1 of the World Series on FOX between the Rangers and Cardinals, Oct. 19 in St. Louis; plus Aug. 27 at the Tigers-Twins and Sept. 10 at the Twins-Tigers MLB on FOX Saturday Game of the Week broadcasts.

Ken Rosenthal interviews Phillies catcher Brian Schneider, whose grandmother died from ALS, which is the Phillies' main charity.

What it means: The ALS Association seeks to create a world without Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, otherwise know as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Designed in partnership with Ben Kaufman, whose father Jeff Kaufman died in 2010 after surviving 21 years with the disease. The pattern represents light at the end of the tunnel, depicting hope, and is inspired by Kaufman's 1995 Newsweek article, titled "Digging Your Own Tunnel."

When Ken wore it: Game 2 of the World Series on FOX between the Rangers and Cardinals in St. Louis; and July 9 at the Braves-Phillies MLB on FOX Saturday Baseball Game of the Week broadcast.

Who he wore it for: In memory of Jeff Kaufman and of Lou Gehrig, six-time World Series champion, who died of the disease June 2, 1941.

Doug Fister, the winning pitcher of Game 3 of the Rangers-Tigers ALCS on FOX broadcast, joined the Tigers via a trade with the Seattle Mariners at the July 31 trade deadline. While still a member of the M's, Fister, along with fellow pitcher Shawn Kelley, hosted the the 26th annual Mariners Care Golf Tournament to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, held on June 30.

"Being able to host this CF tournament is something that Shawn and I have really taken a liking to and we really take a lot of care into it," Fister said.

He spoke to FOX Sports Detroit following his ALCS Game 3 win.

What it means: Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus. Mary G. Weiss became a volunteer for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 1965 after learning that her three little boys had CF. Mary's 4-year-old Richard listened as Mary made calls seeking support and funding. Richard told his mom, "I know what you are working for. You are working for 65 Roses." Some children with cystic fibrosis call their disease "65 Roses" because  it is easier for them to pronounce.

When Ken wore it: Game 3 of the World Series on FOX between the Cardinals and Rangers, Oct. 22 in Arlington, Texas; Oct. 11 at Game 3 of the Rangers-Tigers ALCS on FOX broadcast from Detroit.

The OCRF bowtie debuts in September, which is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and OCRF has launched My OCRF Bow Tie Challenge in social media for a chance to win a bow tie, along with other OCRF apparel for a total prize value of over $100. Challenge ends on Sept. 30.

What it means: Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) is the largest private philanthropy in the United States dedicated exclusively to funding ovarian cancer research. Its mission is to fund scientific research that leads to more effective identification, treatment and, ultimately, a cure for ovarian cancer. Since 1998, OCRF has invested nearly $40 million in ovarian cancer research through grants to scientists at more than 60 medical centers in the US. OCRF has three active research programs and funds the best researchers and the most innovative projects.

Who he wore it for: Brenda Perrotto, an ovarian cancer survivor and wife of John Perrotto, national writer for BaseballProspectus.com and baseball columnist for the Beaver County (Pa.) Times.

The Mets' Scott Hairston emerged as a surprise leader vs. the Phillies. Ken Rosenthal talked to Hairston about his big game, which fit right in with the "Men for Others" motto of St. Xavier High School.

What it means: St. Xavier High School assists young men to become leaders through rigorous college preparation in the Jesuit tradition. The school, whose motto is "Men for Others," created its retention program to assist non-traditional students to reach their full potential — academically, socially, spiritually and personally. The subtle X in the pattern of the bow tie reflects the school’s Long Blue Line tradition, while the geometric design represents the Jesuit approach to leading within complex, changing environments. Designed for the school's annual gala (Xtravaganza), the signature St. X BowTie helped raise over $30,000 to support the program. Dhani visited the school and taught students how to tie a bow tie.

Pablove Across America is an annual long-distance bike ride to increase awareness of childhood cancer and raise funds. Pablo loved bow ties and enjoyed drawing; this bow tie is designed with characters called "Punch Guys," drawn by Pablo. About one in 500 young adults is a childhood cancer survivor. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Terrell Owens attended the launch of the Alzheimer's Association bow tie at the Blind Barber in New York on Jan. 19, 2011. Ken, wearing the American Diabetes Association bow tie, talks with Prince Fielder at the 2012 premiere of MLB on FOX's Saturday Game of the Week. Fielder told Ken he was surprised by the warm welcome he received in Detroit. Prince's estranged father, Cecil (a former Tigers slugger), is diabetic.

What it means: The American Diabetes Association is the only nonprofit that funds research, programs and advocacy for children and adults with diabetes. Designed in partnership with the Michigan office, the American Diabetes Association bow tie will be unveiled at its Commitment for a Cure Gala on April 21. Yankees center fielder Curtis Granderson has followed in the footsteps of Alan Page. Ken, wearing his Page Education Foundation bow tie, interviewed Granderson prior to the April 14 Yankees game vs. the Angels about his educational foundation for children called Grand Kids. The son of two teachers, Granderson has always had a passion for education.

What it means: Alan Page played in the NFL for 15 years and was the first defensive player to ever be voted league MVP. A Notre Dame grad (1967), he attended law school while playing pro ball, earning his Juris Doctor in 1978. Alan has a deep and abiding belief in the importance of education and recognizes the need for our educational system to reach more young people of color. In his 1988  NFL Hall of Fame induction speech he announced the formation of Page Education Foundation. The bow tie design represents the power one person has when utilizing a platform for positive change.

Ken, wearing his Parkinson's disease awareness and research tie, interviewed Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia about the celebration for Fenway Park's 100th anniversary, the Red Sox's slow start and how he resolved his issues with manager Bobby Valentine.

What it means: The Cincinnati ShakeUp for Parkinson's is a collaboration between the Brian Grant Foundation and Gardner Center for Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders at the University of Cincinnati Neuroscience Institute. The signature bow tie's design is patterned after the chemical formula for dopamine. Cerebral dopamine depletion is the hallmark of Parkinson's disease; the bow tie design embraces the notion that an abundance of dopamine combats the disease. Former Xavier University and NBA player Brian Grant was diagnosed with Young-Onset Parkinson's disease at the age of 36.

Ken interviewed former pitcher and current FOX and MLB Network analyst Mitch Williams about his two sons who have Asperger's syndrome and how his family is coping. Asperger's is an autism spectrum disorder that affects a person's ability to socialize and communicate.

What it means: Autism Speaks was founded in February 2005 by Bob and Suzanne Wright, grandparents of a child with autism. Their longtime friend Bernie Marcus donated $25 million to fund the organization. Autism Speaks has grown into the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into Autism's causes, prevention and treatments and finding a cure; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. According to the CDC, around one in 88 American children is on the autism spectrum, a tenfold increase in 40 years. April is National Autism Awareness Month.
