At this point, we’re running out of words to describe Zambrano and the Cubs. Another dugout tantrum. Another embarrassment for the team. The Cubs have won one series this month. They aren’t going anywhere. Unfortunately, the same is probably true of their onetime ace. The Cubs’ tolerance for his antics is at an all-time low, along with Big Z’s trade value. Right now, Zambrano is a bad, expensive starting pitcher with an attitude problem and 5.66 ERA. The Cubs would trade him … if they could. Radar Gun reading: 63 mph

Just when it appeared the Red Sox had found a foothold in the division, their leader broke his foot. Pedroia was placed on the disabled list Saturday and will be sorely missed during his weeks-long absence. Bill Hall replaced Pedroia in the lineup Saturday, but he’s hitting just .226; the newly acquired Eric Patterson wasn’t good enough to play for the A’s, so it’s hard to count on him. Even though the Red Sox are on a 26-11 run, this hasn’t been their year. Radar Gun reading: 67 mph

A.J. Burnett, 0-5 this month after losing to the Dodgers on Saturday, is the Yankees’ most acute concern. But keep an eye on Posada. He’s hitting just .206 since returning from the disabled list at the beginning of June — with only four extra-base hits in 63 at-bats. Along with his leadership, Posada’s chief asset is his bat. If he’s not hitting, Posada’s defensive shortcomings become harder to overlook. (He has been the DH numerous times this month.) It’s worth noting that fellow catcher Francisco Cervelli has struggled at the plate this month, too. Radar Gun reading: 71 mph

It isn’t enough that the Orioles have the worst record in baseball. Their short-time veterans — the guys who should be dealt for prospects at the trade deadline — aren’t performing, either. Millwood has allowed the most hits (46) of any pitcher in baseball this month, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The good news is that Millwood has won his last two decisions. The bad news is that he was 0-8 before that. Small wonder why managerial candidates aren’t exactly lining up for this job. Radar Gun reading: 73 mph
 

The numbers are damning: 7.32, 7.40 and 7.84. Those are the June ERAs for Davis, Shields and Garza, respectively. If that trend continues, the Rays will end up a lot like the 84-win, third-place team that they were last year. David Price and Jeff Niemann have been terrific lately, but they can’t win the American League East by themselves. And now Carl Crawford has a bum shoulder. Unless the wayward right-handers figure it out, the Rays will be in serious trouble. Radar Gun reading: 75 mph

Slugger Paul Konerko and the White Sox starting rotation have received much of the credit for the team’s 11-game winning streak. But don’t forget about the bullpen. Jenks and Putz have combined to allow only one earned run in 23 2/3 innings this month — a 0.38 ERA. With Jenks away from the team Saturday because of a personal matter, Putz and Matt Thornton combined for two hitless innings to preserve a win over the Cubs. Prognosticators (like me) who had the White Sox making the playoffs don’t look so boneheaded anymore. Radar Gun reading: 93 mph
 

Guillen’s batting average is up to .278, after he extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a 1-for-4 performance on Saturday. But he told the Kansas City Star recently that a blister on his left foot has kept him from pushing off and hitting for power. Assuming the blister heals, Guillen could be due for a big second half. Guillen carries a reputation for being temperamental, but he should appeal to contenders who need a right-handed bat at the deadline. Radar Gun reading: 95 mph

A converted outfielder, Ogando had been denied a visa to enter the United States since 2005, when he and fellow Rangers prospect Omar Beltre were found to be involved in a human trafficking ring. After years of work by the Rangers and the pitchers, the two were allowed to enter the country this year. Ogando is already contributing out of the bullpen for the first-place Rangers, earning a victory in his first three relief appearances. His fastball averages 96.4 miles per hour, according to Fangraphs.com. It would be trite to say it was worth the wait, but the Rangers are happy to have him. Radar Gun reading: 96 mph

In one night, Jackson went from a struggling trade candidate to an intriguing trade candidate. Even after the no-hitter, the right-hander’s full-season statistics aren’t exciting: 5-6, 4.63 ERA. But Friday could act as a springboard for Jackson, who had struggled since making the All-Star team last year. If he was capable of a great first half in 2009, then why not a great second half in 2010? He’s earning $4.2 million this year, considerably less than Roy Oswalt (and Cliff Lee). As long as he can lift his arm after those 149 pitches, he’s priced to move. Radar Gun reading: 97 mph

Not to make light of someone losing a job, but Fredi Gonzalez is going to be juuuust fine. When the Marlins fired him, he got a paid summer vacation and clearer path to a much better job: successor to Bobby Cox in Atlanta. It would have been tougher for Gonzalez to pursue that opening while still in the employ of the division-rival Marlins. Now, he has a better chance of working for an organization that truly appreciates him. Gonzalez’s image has actually improved since the season began, which tells you plenty about the Marlins. Radar Gun reading: 99 mph

Yes, we witnessed another no-hitter in the major leagues. Edwin Jackson did the honors Friday night in St. Petersburg. Now we’re due for a perfect game — or at least eight no-hit innings — by Thursday or Friday of this week.

In other news, all three American League East powers have reasons to be worried as we near the season’s halfway point. Speaking of that, cast your All-Star ballots soon. The voting ends this week.
