Here are some of our all-time favorites. They weren't just handsome and great ballplayers, they were heroes too.

Roberto Clemente: Pirates, 1955-72. Died at age 38 in an aviation accident while en route to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. MLB's humanitarian award is named for him.

Lou Gehrig: Yankees, 1923-39. Retired at age 36 due to the fatal neuromuscular disease ALS, now commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. His legacy has raised awareness and funds for the fight against the disease.

Jackie Robinson: Dodgers, 1947-56. The first African-American to play major league baseball. His courage and grace under remarkable pressure paved the way for generations of African-American ballplayers.

Ted Williams: Red Sox, 1939-60, with time off for military service from 1942-46 (WWII) and 1952-53 (Korean War).  He is the last player to hit .400 in a season (1941).

We're still learning about this Mariners rookie, but there's plenty of time to get to know him. He made quite a splash in his first season with the M's after being called up on June 17, 2011, and he's sure to be an MLB fixture for years to come. He's already a fan favorite in Seattle; we can see why.

Fuld made such an instant splash with the Rays in 2011 with his dazzling defensive plays, that he begat a Twitter trend — #LegendofSamFuld. He's the son of Kenneth Fuld, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Professor of Psychology at the University of New Hampshire, and Amanda Merrill, a New Hampshire State Senator. He is a diabetic who loves to take time to help out kids with the disease.

Pagan grew up in Puerto Rico. His macho hobbies include boxing and spearfishing, but he's a real softie when it comes to his wife and daughters.

Stanton's full name is Giancarlo Cruz Michael Stanton. He went by Mike for his first two season. He announced prior to the 2012 season that he preferred to use the name Giancarlo, although his father still calls him Mike, his mom calls him Cruz, other relatives call him Mikey and his teammates call him Bigfoot. Whatever you call him, he impressed as a rookie in 2010 and packed on more muscle for his sophomore season. The California native was a three-sport athlete in high school.

Robertson is as sweet as he looks. He and his wife Erin started a charitable foundation called "High Socks for Hope" to aid victims the 2011 tornado that struck Robertson's native Alabama. Robertson, one of the game's best relievers, donates $100 for every strikeout he records.

Freese, the 2011 World Series hero, is a Missouri boy who grew up cheering his hometown team. He quit baseball for a while after high school but, thankfully, found his way back.

Hunter is a whirlwind of personality and natural charisma. The dazzling smile won us over.

The M's star moved to the U.S. after playing professional baseball for nine seasons in Japan, where he is such a huge celebrity that there is a museum dedicated to him. Who can resist that kind of star power?

Recently traded Street plays guitar and is a wine connoisseur. Sounds like the makings of a romantic evening.

A man who excels in his profession is very sexy, and few pitchers in the MLB are as skilled as Cliff Lee. Lee recently chose to sign with the Phillies rather than the Yankees, even though the Bronx Bombers offered $30 million more. We think part of the reason is that Yanks fans were rude to his wife. Now that's what we call gallant.

Granderson serves as an ambassador for Major League Baseball International. He has traveled to Italy, China, South Africa and New Zealand promoting the sport. His charity, called Grand Kids Foundation, raises money for innercity kids. And he was voted one of MLB's friendliest players by his peers.

California boy Utley has a soft spot for man's best friend. In his adpoted home of Philly he and his wife raise money for the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Any friend of animals is a friend of ours.

Rios was added to our list by popular demand. Seems this Puerto Rican-American star (born in Coffee, Ala.) has a lot of enamored fans out there.

Arrieta made his major league debut in June 2010 and immediately caught the eye of loyal, if frustrated, Orioles fans. His level-headed approach to the game and confidence at such a young age makes him even more attractive.

This ace's boyish good looks make him as hot off the pitching mound as he is on it.

He often sports a Grizzly Adams beard, but we prefer the slugger with a five o'clock shadow. He signed a monster contract with the Nats in the 2010 offseason ($126 million for 7 years).

A-Rod is the ultimate bad boy. If that's your type then A-Rod just may be the man for you.

We can't help but fall for those dimples. But he's so much more than that. Cuddy is active in charitable causes, is an avid and accomplished photographer and wrote some pretty great columns for FOX Sports North.

Mauer is the boy we all wish we grew up next door to. The former AL MVP answers all of his fan mail personally with help from his mom. We find that kind of aw-shucks personality very endearing.

Kemp upped his profile when he started dating Grammy-winning singer Rihanna in 2010 (they broke up in 2011). Savvy fans had noticed him long before that, however. He launched a community initiative called Kemp's Kids that benefits youth organizations.

Cano, who is named after Jackie Robinson, had a breakout season with the Yankees in 2010. That's fine with us — it means more exposure for that beautiful face.
