Already the AL Comeback Player, Ellsbury wins his first Silver Slugger. Ellsbury showed a rare combination of average, speed and power for a leadoff hitter. In 158 games, he hit .321 with 32 homers, 105 RBI, a .928 OPS, an AL-leading 364 total bases and 39 stolen bases.

Granderson wins his first Silver Slugger. He made adjustments this season to better his performance against left-handed pitching. Granderson hit .262 with 136 runs scored, 26 doubles, 41 homers, 119 RBI and 85 walks in 156 games, setting career highs in runs, home runs and RBI. He led the majors in runs scored, ranked second in home runs and tied for second in extra-base hits (81).

Bautista hit 97 homers in two years, including 43 this season, leading the majors for the second straight season, and he was fittingly named a Silver Slugger for the second straight year.

This is Upton's first Silver Slugger. The 24-year-old earned his second NL All-Star appearance in 2011, as he hit .289 with 39 doubles, 31 homers and 88 RBI while playing in a career-high 159 games. He became the third player in D-backs history to reach the 30-homer and 20-steal plateau in the same season. He stole 21 bases in 30 attempts.

Kemp wins his second Silver Slugger after an outstanding offensive season during which he was in the hunt for the triple crown until the last week of the season. Kemp ranked among the National League’s top four in batting average (.324, 3rd), home runs (39, 1st), RBI (126, 1st), runs (115, 1st), stolen bases (40, T-2nd), on-base percentage (.399, 4th), slugging percentage (.586, 2nd), hits (195, 2nd), multi-hit games (57, T-1st) and total bases (353, 1st).
 

Left fielder Braun wins his fourth straight Silver Sluggers. Braun has had at least 30 homers and 100 RBI for four straight years. Braun led the NL with a .994 OPS and finished second with a .332 batting average, 336 total bases and 109 runs scored. He ranked fourth with 111 RBI and tied for sixth with 33 home runs. 

An All-Star this season, Cabrera led all AL shortstops with 92 RBI while sharing the lead with 165 hits and finishing second with home runs, doubles and runs scored. His .792 OPS was good for third. Cabrera's performance in the clutch stood out. His .309 average with runners in scoring position (43-for-139) ranked near the top among all AL hitters, and his .325 average with runners on base in general put him in the top 10. Thirty-two of the 92 runs he drove in were either game-tying or go-ahead tallies.

Tulowitzki wins his second consecutive Silver Slugger with a .303 average. Tulowitzki's 30 home runs this season were nearly double the closest NL shortstop (16 by Jimmy Rollins of the Phillies) and his 105 RBI were far ahead of the 68 of runner-up Yuniesky Betancourt of the Brewers in that category.

Beltre wins his third Silver Slugger. Despite playing in just 124 games, Beltre hit .296 with 32 home runs and 105 RBI. He missed over a month in the second half of the season with a strained left hamstring muscle. His .540 slugging percentage and .870 OPS while manning third base were the highest of any AL player at the position. He had a three-homer game in the ALDS.

Ramirez, who posted his sixth season with at least 30 doubles and 25 home runs this year, won his first Silver Slugger. Ramirez, 33, who is a free agent after nine seasons with the Cubs, batted .306, seventh best in the NL. His 173 hits and 288 total bases both ranked 10th in the NL. He belted his 300th career homer on July 1.

Cano, the Home Run Derby champ, wins his second straight Silver Slugger. The 29-year-old batted .302 with 104 runs scored, 46 doubles, 28 homers and 118 RBI in 159 games. Cano did not go more than two days during the regular season without a hit, and his 114 RBI as a second baseman surpassed Tony Lazzeri's 113 in 1926 to set the Yankees' all-time record at the position. Cano also ranked second in the majors with 81 extra-base hits and had a major-league-leading 91 RBI with runners in scoring position.

Phillips won his first Silver Slugger, leading NL players at the position with a .300 batting average, 183 hits, 279 total bases, 94 runs scored and 38 doubles.

After moving the the AL, Gonzalez wins his first Silver Slugger. Gonzalez led the league with 213 hits while batting .338 with 27 homers and 117 RBI.

Fielder was the All-Star Game MVP. To win his second career Silver Slugger Award, Fielder had to unseat the Cardinals' Albert Pujols, who had won at first base in each of the past three seasons. Fielder had the edge over Pujols in home runs (38 to 37), RBI (120 to 99), OPS (.981 to .906) and total bases (322 to 313). Fielder finished second in the NL in homers, RBI, walks (107) and on-base percentage (.415). 

Avila wins his first Silver Slugger while setting career bests in nearly every offensive category. He actually built on his first-half numbers by hitting for a higher average, near-identical slugging percentage and a higher OPS after the break.

McCann wins his fifth Silver Slugger and his fourth straight. The 27-year-old, who tied a career high with 24 home runs, has won the Silver Slugger in all but one of his years as a full-time starter.

Big Papi wins his fifth Silver Slugger, the most ever for a DH. Ortiz played like the Big Papi from the middle of the last decade, hitting .309 with 29 homers, 96 RBI and a .953 OPS in 2011.

Hudson collects his first Silver Slugger in his first full year in the big leagues. Hudson showed that he could be a weapon not just with his arm, but with his bat. The 24-year-old led all major-league pitchers by hitting .277 with three doubles, a home run and 14 RBI and was especially tough with runners in scoring position, hitting .389.
 

American League and National League distributed the Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Award to the best offensive players at each position on Nov 2. The Silver Slugger, which was first awarded in 1980, is voted on by coaches and managers from both leagues, and voters are prohibited from rewarding players on their own team.
