News: Cook was sharp on Tuesday night, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings while throwing only 10 pitches. Impact: Cook's control was excellent on Tuesday as nine of his 10 pitches were strikes. If Cook can limit the walks, his main weakness, he could enter into the A's saves mix very soon as other A's relievers have now blown five ninth innings leads through the first 20 games of the season.(RotoWire, )

News: Manager Bob Melvin said that Cook wouldn't be in the mix for saves right away in the A's ninth-inning committee, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Impact: Cook was activated from the disabled list earlier this week following a shoulder injury, and Melvin stressed the team wanted to ease him back into action before thrusting him into a high-impact role. In the meantime, Melvin suggested he'd play a lot of matchups in the ninth inning, with Sean Doolittle likely to see most of the work against lefty-heavy lineups and Luke Gregerson to get the ball against right-handed units.(RotoWire, )

News: Cook is now in the mix for saves in Oakland with Jim Johnson out as closer for the time being, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports. Impact: The A's will go with a closer by committee in the ninth inning for now, so Cook will be one of several players -- along with Luke Gregerson, Sean Doolittle and Dan Otero -- who could be used in that situation. Cook just came off the disabled list earlier this week, but has shined in his two seasons in Oakland, including tallying 14 saves for the A's two seasons ago.(RotoWire, )
