News: Paxton (back) will be examined by the team doctor Wednesday, after which he could be cleared to throw, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports. Impact: There are seemingly mixed signals between manager and player. While Lloyd McClendon relayed Monday that Paxton remains on his initial 6-to-8 week timetable, Paxton revealed that he "feels great" and is hopeful that he'll be able to throw soon. News: Paxton (back) has yet to begin throwing, and manager Lloyd McClendon stated that Paxton likely remains on his initial 6-to-8 week timetable, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. Impact: Paxton posted two fine outings prior to coming down with a strained left lat on Apr. 8, recording two wins, including one quality start, with a 2.25 ERA, 0.667 WHIP, and 13:2 K:BB in 12 frames. Because he isn't close to throwing, he's unlikely to be available to the Mariners' rotation until the latter half of May.(RotoWire, )

News: Paxton (back) is unlikely to throw for another week, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports. Impact: Even with the delay, Paxton could still possibly return from the DL when eligible April 25, if all goes well with his strained lat muscle once he starts throwing again. The young hurler has been impressive through two turns this season, racking up 13 strikeouts over 12 innings and allowing three runs.(RotoWire, )

News: The Mariners will be without Paxton after he was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained muscle on the left side of his back. Seattle announced the move Wednesday after an MRI confirmed the original diagnosis of a strained latissimus dorsi muscle. Impact: Paxton left Tuesday night's win over the Los Angeles Angels in the sixth inning after feeling a twinge in the muscle. Paxton got the win, retiring 14 straight batters during one stretch to improve to 2-0. Seattle recalled left-hander Lucas Luetge from Triple-A Tacoma to take Paxton's roster spot. Manager Lloyd McClendon said right-hander Chris Young will take Paxton's scheduled turn in the rotation on Sunday against Oakland.(STATS, 8:15pm)

News: Paxton (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports. Impact: Manager Lloyd McClendon had suggested Paxton was likely DL-bound, after the left-hander was forced from Tuesday's start with a lat strain, but the team officially deactivated Paxton and brought up Lucas Luetge prior to Wednesday's game. Paxton will be eligible to come off the DL on April 25, but it's far too early to tell whether he'll be ready at that time.(RotoWire, )

News: Paxton (back) is likely headed for the DL, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports. Impact: While manager Lloyd McClendon said he's still waiting on official word from the training staff, he said it's "highly unlikely" Paxton makes his scheduled start Sunday, and that Paxton will "most likely" require a DL stint. The 25-year-old left his start Tuesday in the sixth inning with a lat strain, and with Hisashi Iwakuma (finger) and Taijuan Walker (shoulder) still out, the M's will have to bide their time with a makeshift rotation.(RotoWire, )
