News: Hammel will not make his scheduled start against the Yankees on Tuesday due to the postponement of Tuesday's game. Impact: Tuesday's game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday, and it's almost certain that Hammel will start one of those two games, though it's not clear which one as of yet. Those in leagues with daily changes should simply be able to push Hammel back a day, but the rainout will push his next start to Monday, costing him two-start status this week in leagues that use weekly lineups.(RotoWire, )

News: Hammel threw seven strong innings as the Chicago Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-5 on Wednesday night despite allowing five solo home runs. Impact: Signed to a one-year, $6 million contract over the offseason, Hammel (2-0, 2.63 ERA) won his Cubs debut when he beat the Pirates in Pittsburgh. He got off to another good start in this one, retiring the first 12 batters until Pedro Alvarez's first homer of the game tied it to start the fifth. Hammel allowed three runs and three hits - all solo homers - while striking out six.(STATS, 6:38pm)

News: Hammel improved to 2-0 Wednesday, allowing three runs (all earned), three hits and a walk with six strikeouts over seven innings. Impact: All three hits Hammel gave up were solo home runs, as he was able to limit the damage even when Pirates' hitters got the best of him. Hammel now sits with a 2.63 ERA and splendid 0.51 WHIP, although it's unlikely he sustains these throughout the season, as they are far lower than his career numbers.(RotoWire, )

News: Hammel pitched two-hit ball into the seventh inning and the Chicago Cubs edged the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 on Thursday for their first win of the season. Impact: The right-hander allowed a run, struck out five and walked one in 6 2-3 innings to help the Cubs avoid their worst start in 17 years.(STATS, 6:57pm)

News: Hammel (1-0) allowed just one run on two hits and a walk over 6.2 innings Thursday against Pittsburgh. He struck out five. Impact: Hammel's first start as a Cub went swimmingly, and you have to imagine he's thrilled to finally be pitching somewhere besides the American League or Coors Field. Hammel showed some fantasy promise two years ago, striking out 113 in 118 innings with a 3.43 ERA; owners in deep leagues would be wise to keep an eye on him after Thursday's impressive performance.(RotoWire, )
