News: Shields was far from effective Saturday in a loss to the Twins, although terrible defense hurt him the most. Impact: Shields yielded seven runs - one earned - in 5 2-3 innings. He gave up six hits and walked three while striking out five. He faces the Twins again in his next outing.(STATS, 12:29pm)

News: Shields fell to 0-2 for the season Saturday against the Twins, allowing seven runs (one earned) over 5.2 innings in a 7-1 loss. Impact: Shields allowed six unearned runs in a disastrous second inning that was aided by a pair of errors, one of which the pitcher made himself. Defense was hardly the only issue, however, as he allowed a solo homer to Brain Dozier in the first inning and a three-run blast to Joe Mauer in the second. Shields' owners get an undeserved ERA boost from the performance, but he struck out just five batters, while surrendering six hits and three walks. His first two starts of the season were much, much better, and he should get back on track in his next outing, which is scheduled for Friday against the same Twins team.(RotoWire, )

News: Shields took the loss Sunday against the White Sox, allowing just one earned run on five hits in seven innings while striking out six batters. Impact: Shields pitched well enough to win Sunday, but the Royals just couldn't muster up enough offense against Chris Sale and the White Sox. Shields led the American League with 27 quality starts in 2013, and has picked up right where he left off, already with two under his belt.(RotoWire, )
