News: Mujica allowed a run on two hits in one inning in Friday night's loss to Baltimore. Impact: The run allowed didn't alter the course of the game, but it continues a sketchy start to the season for Mujica. He's allowed runs in three of his six outings and his ERA stands at 10.13. Small samples sizes abound, but the man who would be closer if Koji Uehara can't be, is not offering a lot of confidence right now.(RotoWire, )

News: Mujica blew a save in the 11th inning Wednesday night in a game the Red Sox eventually went on to win in 14 innings over the White Sox. A leadoff walk came around to score. Impact: This was Mujica's second save opportunity since temporarily taking over for Koji Uehara (shoulder), but it may be his last for a bit. Uehara has thrown a few times this week, including a bullpen session Wednesday, and is expected to resume the closer's role as early as Thursday.(RotoWire, )

News: Mujica will move into the closer's role temporarily, with Koji Uehara dealing with a shoulder issue, MLB.com reports. Impact: Uehara is unavailable again Saturday, and manager John Farrell said prior to the game, "We haven't gotten to the point of any roster move with him. We're still gathering information." The team will attempt to gauge Uehara's status with some light throwing Sunday, but Mujica will slide into the closer's role for the time being, a position he filled more than adequately last season with St. Louis. He converted 37 of 41 save opportunities, with a 2.78 ERA and 1.01 WHIP.(RotoWire, )

News: Mujica tossed a scoreless inning to record his first save in a 4-2 win over the Yankees on Friday night. He struck out one. Impact: Regular closer Koji Uehara experienced some shoulder soreness earlier in the day, so the Red Sox decided to play it safe and hold him out. There has been no word yet on Uehara's availability going forward, but Mujica is the likely benefactor should he be forced to miss time.(RotoWire, )

News: Mujica's fastball velocity in his first two appearances with Boston has been lower than career norms, WEEI.com reports. In the early days of last season, Mujica's fastball lived around 92-93 mph. This season, all of his fastballs have been between 89-91. Impact: It's still early and we're making no sweeping generalizations based on this small sample, but it's something to monitor as the season carries on into May. Mujica is considered the backup closer and his Friday night meltdown against the Brewers (four runs, four hits, two-thirds of an inning) may be an anomaly, but the reduced velocity coming off a pedestrian spring training bears watching.(RotoWire, )

News: With closer Koji Uehara and setup man Junichi Tazawa likely unavailable on Friday, Mujica could be in line to close Friday afternoon's game against the Brewers, should a save situation arise. Impact: Mujica is next in line after Uehara and Tazawa, both of whom manager John Farrell likely won't use on Friday, since they have both pitched two days in a row. With the Red Sox playing a day game following a night game, Farrell and company likely will try to avoid pushing their top two relievers too hard this early in the season. Mujica could be the main beneficiary, and Andrew Miller would likely be next in line.(RotoWire, )
