News: Simon will get another start Saturday against the Rays and potentially a handful more thanks to Mat Latos' elbow setback, reports. Impact: Simon came up huge in his first start, which at first was considered a one-time deal. He was stretched out in spring training, so going deep into the game, if he's effective, won't be a hurdle.(RotoWire, )

News: Simon pitched seven impressive innings in his first start in more than two years and began the go-ahead rally with his second career hit, helping the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 2-1 Sunday and salvage a win in the three-game series. Impact: Simon (1-0) made 99 relief appearances for the Reds since his previous start, on Sept. 28, 2011, for Baltimore, but manager Bryan Price tapped the right-hander because Mat Latos is rehabbing from knee and elbow operations. Price said Simon is one of the most durable guys on the staff and had no problem letting him go deep into the game. Still, he lifted Simon after he allowed just four hits and threw 79 pitches.(STATS, 6:16pm)

News: Simon came up huge Sunday in his first start of the year, holding the Mets to one run over seven innings. He allowed four hits, one walk and hit a batter while striking out six. Impact: Simon was incredibly efficient in the start, throwing just 79 pitches. Despite the great outing, he's likely headed back to the bullpen. The Reds are off Thursday and will probably skip his turn in the rotation, and then Mat Latos will probably be back by the time they need that spot again.(RotoWire, )

News: Simon will make his 2014 starting debut Sunday against the Mets after a considerable layoff, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Impact: Simon was scheduled to pitch in the Reds' final preseason game, an exhibition against their Triple-A Louisville affiliate, but that got shortened due to weather and Simon never got in the game. Thus, his throwing has been limited to bullpen sessions for more than a week.(RotoWire, )
