News: Parnell underwent successful Tommy John surgery Tuesday. Impact: Of course, you rarely ever hear of someone not undergoing successful Tommy John surgery, but this is still good news. Assuming no setbacks, which is not a given, seeing what happened to Dan Hudson and Kris Medlen, Parnell could be back for the start of the 2015 season.(RotoWire, )

News: Mets team doctors told Parnell (elbow) that he has a 50 percent chance of avoiding Tommy John surgery, ESPN New York reports. Impact: Parnell also mentioned that he may make a decision within the next two weeks, which contrasts with a previous report saying he'd wait six weeks. The lefty closer is hoping his elbow ligament will heal with platelet-rich-plasma therapy, but his status is entirely up in the air. Even if surgery is not ultimately needed, a multi-month absence seems likely.(RotoWire, )

News: Parnell (elbow) will be evaluated over the next six weeks before a determination is made on whether or not he'll require season-ending Tommy John surgery, ESPN.com's Adam Rubin reports. Impact: GM Sandy Alderson further added that Parnell will rest for the next two weeks before he begins throwing again, a process that figures to include multiple bullpen sessions and rehab outings. The Mets chose a similar approach last season when Matt Harvey suffered a ligament tear in his elbow, with Harvey ultimately admitting defeat and opting for surgery. Parnell hopes to avoid a similar fate, but with his velocity on the decline even before the forearm discomfort surfaced, it may make sense for his fantasy owners to simply cut ties with him altogether.(RotoWire, )

News: Parnell (elbow) could eventually require Tommy John surgery, Newsday reports. Impact: After blowing a save Monday, Parnell complained of tightness in his right forearm and the team quickly sent him for an examination. Doctors discovered a partial MCL tear, an injury which could ultimately require Tommy John surgery, but for now, Parnell is hoping to avoid the procedure. If rest and rehab fail to do the trick, however, the right-hander could be looking at up to a year on the shelf. Look for Jose Valverde to close for the foreseeable future.(RotoWire, )

News: Parnell has a partially torn elbow ligament after just 25 pitches this season and might need surgery. He complained of tightness in his right elbow after Monday's game. The Mets said he was examined Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery, had an MRI and was diagnosed with a partial tear of the right medial collateral ligament. Impact: The injury means 36-year-old Jose Valverde is likely to take over as closer for now in an already thin bullpen. Valverde, a three-time All-Star, has struggled with control in recent years.(STATS, 1:56pm)
