News: Gimenez was granted free agency Saturday rather than accept an assignment to Triple-A Round Rock, John Blake of the Rangers' official site reports. Impact: Gimenez was the odd man out when Geovany Soto landed on the 60-day DL prior to the season due to a torn meniscus, as the Rangers opted have J.P Arencibia and Robinson Chirinos man the backstop in Soto's absence. Expect Gimenez to sign a minor league contract elsewhere that includes a potential clear path to the majors.(RotoWire, )

News: Gimenez has cleared waivers and will be assigned to Triple-A Round Rock, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. Impact: Gimenez will have the option to reject the assignment and become a free agent if he chooses to, but will otherwise be starting the season in the minors. He was once in the mix to compete for a backup catcher role due to the absence of Geovany Soto (knee), but the Rangers seem content to roll with J.P. Arencibia and Robinson Chirinos instead.(RotoWire, )

News: The Rangers designated Gimenez for assignment Tuesday. Impact: Four days after claiming Gimenez off waivers from the A's, the Rangers went ahead and bumped him from the 40-man roster to make room for right-hander Daniel McCutchen. Gimenez was brought in for catching depth after Geovany Soto went down with a knee injury, but apparently Texas is content with calling up Brett Nicholas or Jose Felix if there is another injury behind the plate.(RotoWire, )
