News: McDonald has rejoined the Cleveland Indians nearly nine years after playing his last game for his first major league team. Impact: The Indians reacquired the 38-year utility infielder from Pittsburgh on Monday. He was sent to the Indians after the Pirates recalled him from a rehab assignment and activated him from the 15-day disabled list. Since playing the first six seasons of his career from 1999-2004, McDonald has since played for Toronto, Detroit, Arizona and Pittsburgh. He was only 2-for-31 in 16 games for the Pirates this season, and is a career .240 hitter.(STATS, 9:01pm)

News: McDonald (back/elbow) is expected to replace Juan Diaz on the Indians' 25-man roster, and back up Mike Aviles at shortstop while Asdrubal Cabrera (quadriceps) is out, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Impact: Though the Tribe hasn't officially made the move to clear a spot for McDonald on the active roster, it sounds like they soon will after acquiring McDonald from Pittsburgh on Monday. With Cabrera possibly out a month, the team seemingly wants a veteran behind Aviles and was willing to overlook McDonald's 2-for-31 record with the Pirates this season.(RotoWire, )

News: The Indians acquired McDonald (back/elbow) from the Pirates on Monday in exchange for a player to be named later and/or cash considerations. Impact: McDonald has spent the past few weeks rehabbing back and elbow injuries down at Triple-A Indianapolis, and with Jordy Mercer playing adequately in his place, it seems the Pirates deemed the 38-year-old infielder expendable. He's now on the Indians' 40-man roster with Brett Myers (elbow) moved to the 60-day DL, and it sounds like the team may soon activate McDonald to 25-man roster. Even if they do, McDonald figures to only see occasional time around the infield for Cleveland.(RotoWire, )
