News: Burnett didn't earn his first win of the year despite a solid outing, but he did have a career-high three hits in a 3-2 win in 10 innings over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night. Impact: Burnett (0-1, 2.73 ERA) took a four-hitter and a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning. But birthday boy Dee Gordon legged out a double to short right-center with one out, stole third and scored when pinch-hitter Justin Turner singled to left on Burnett's 105th and final pitch. Burnett's multihit game was his fifth in the majors - all on the road. The other four came with the Marlins, most recently on Sept. 25, 2005, against Atlanta's Jorge Sosa. (STATS, 2:48pm)

News: Burnett received his fourth no decision in five starts Tuesday, giving up two runs on six hits while fanning five in 6.2 innings to the Dodgers. The Phillies eventually won, 3-2, in extra innings. Impact: Burnett now has 20 strikeouts, a 2.73 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and an 0-1 record over 29.2 innings this season. He has been a serviceable option for both the Phils and fantasy owners alike, and will aim yet again for his first win this weekend against the last-place Diamondbacks.(RotoWire, )

News: Burnett said his hernia may be a bit of a blessing in disguise, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. "It helps me to stay within myself," Burnett said. "A couple of pitches, when I tried to do too much, I could tell it wasn't right, but every time I was simple and just nice and easy, I was able to make the pitches." Impact: Burnett said when his stride gets long, it creates control issues for him. If his stride is getting long, he can tell from the pain from the hernia. Burnett will try to pitch through the injury all season, and will undergo surgery in the offseason.(RotoWire, )

News: Burnett dominated the Braves on Thursday, striking out five while allowing just three hits and two walks over seven shutout innings. However, he ended up with no decision in a 1-0 win. Impact: It's great to see Burnett seemingly over his groin ailment, as he got through this one with no issues and generated a spectacular 14 ground-ball outs with just one fly-ball out). He'll try to build on this next Tuesday, when he faces the Dodgers in Los Angeles.(RotoWire, )

News: Burnett (groin) has been confirmed as the starting pitcher for Thursday's game against the Braves. Impact: Burnett's status was in doubt for a few days after he left his last start with a sore groin, but the Phillies said earlier this week that they expected him to take the ball Thursday, and he will do just that. Burnett faced the Braves just once last season, and he gave up six earned runs over five innings against nearly the exact same lineup he will face Thursday.(RotoWire, )

News: Burnett (groin) will start Thursday against the Braves, Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports. Impact: Tuesday's game has been postponed due to inclement weather, and the teams will make it up in a later series rather than schedule a doubleheader for the coming days. Burnett, who suffered a hernia in his last start, is now set to toe the rubber Thursday with Cliff Lee moved to Wednesday.(RotoWire, )

News: Burnett will need to have surgery after the season to repair an inguinal hernia, the Phillies' official site reports. Impact: Burnett received a cortisone injection Monday, and will make his start Wednesday. He will continue to pitch this season with the injury provided the pain remains manageable. Cole Hamels pitched with the same injury in 2011 and was able to make it through the entire season and finish fifth in National League Cy Young voting.(RotoWire, )

News: Burnett (groin) is expected to make his scheduled start Wednesday, MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports. Impact: Burnett underwent an ultrasound Sunday which revealed he is suffering from a regular hernia, rather than a sports hernia, which is cause for optimism. The Phillies believe his condition is "manageable," and will proceed with his scheduled start Wednesday. If he has to be scratched for any reason, David Buchanan would be their insurance policy, but it's currently looking like that won't be necessary.(RotoWire, )

News: Burnett threw a bullpen session Sunday and felt a pull in his groin muscle twice while throwing out of the stretch, the Phillies' official site reports. "It went away right after that," Burnett said. "I'm feeling good enough to throw." Impact: Burnett left his last start because of soreness in his right groin. He will undergo an ultrasound Monday morning to determine the extent of the injury. If he is unable to start Wednesday, the Phillies will turn to David Buchanan.(RotoWire, )

News: Burnett (groin) is likely to be replaced by David Buchanan in his next scheduled start Wednesday, as Buchanan was removed from Sunday's start in Triple-A after just one inning, Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Impact: Burnett continues to undergo further testing, including an ultrasound, but all signs are pointing to the Phillies having to skip his next scheduled start. More tests will take place Monday and Tuesday, which will ultimately prove whether Buchanan's callup was a necessity, or just an insurance policy.(RotoWire, )

News: Burnett (groin) still felt sore Saturday, and it's unclear whether he'll be able to make his next start, which is scheduled for Wednesday against the Braves, Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports. Impact: Phillies GM Ruben Amaro said the team will do more testing if Burnett's groin is still sore by Monday or Tuesday. For now, the right-hander's status for Wednesday's outing is up in the air, with David Buchanan and Jeff Manship the top candidates to fill in. Burnett downplayed the injury after Friday's start but also acknowledged that he's "no spring chicken."(RotoWire, )
Sat. Apr 12, 2014
News: Burnett said he isn't too concerned about the groin soreness that forced him from Friday's game, the Phillies' official site reports. "I'd just say it felt more snug that anything," he said. "Like everything was tight, opposed to something going. I guess that's a positive. I tried to mask it, but I guess I didn't, huh?...I'm not too concerned about it, but then again, you never know. I'm not a spring chicken anymore. But it takes a lot to get me out of the ballgame. I'm not happy about that." Impact: Burnett will undergo further evaluation Saturday. He allowed two runs on five hits with six walks and four strikeouts, before departing Friday's game. It was the second straight game that he walked six batters.(RotoWire, )

News: Burnett was removed from Friday's start against the Marlins due to groin soreness, MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports. Impact: The team said Burnett was taken out of the game for "precautionary reasons," though he threw 106 pitches in 4.1 innings.(RotoWire, )
Fri. Apr 11, 2014
News: Burnett was removed from Friday's start in the fifth inning after a visit to the mound from the team's athletic trainer, Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports. Impact: Burnett appeared to be wincing two pitches before he was checked out by the trainer, but it wasn't certain what sort of injury was dealing with. Manager Ryne Sandberg may have been on track to remove him from the game soon anyway, as Burnett had already racked up 106 pitches through 4.1 innings, giving up five hits and six walks. In spite of his struggles finding the strike zone, he still left the game with a 3-2 lead.(RotoWire, )
