114 hits and not at the all-star break yet, if he stay's healthy and play's till he's 40 he has an outside shot at 3000 hits HOF RIGHT NOW !!

Hey 26crowns, I like your style. Really. Here we are 20 games from the All Star Classic, and Ichiro is approaching 30 runs scored. Someone wrote earlier about their worry he had not been scoring, and thought it would be awful if he had over 200 hits again this year, and didn't score atleast 100 runs himself. WEll, maybe maybe not, but it does look like he's crossing the plate more now.
ps..... if my uncle had teets, he'd be your aunt. I like you analagy. Keep it up.

GO ICHIRO..........

PPS..too bad, Mariners came up 3 runs short of a victory against SD again tonight.

He may not be the "best player" ever but there's a good chance he's the best outfielder!

p.s...if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle!

1901 hits in his first 8 years plus three months in the Majors. Incredible. WOW what if he'd started in the Bigs when he was in his later teens early 20s? Could he, would he, be on his way to 4000 hits not? This is not just any hitter. He may not be the "BEST" player in baseball ever, but he's one of the greatest hitters of all time. GO ICHIRO.

PS. for all you who need a demon, I am not Japanese, but I would truly encourage the Mariners to get another hitter from Japan, the equal to Suzuki, ASAP.

BOYD777. Ichiro is fantastic, as we all can see. It's refreshing to see opinions on the Ichiro page from people who appreciate what this man contributes to the game of baseball daily.

For all you Ichiro detractors, 93 hits, with three months to go. His most productive months still ahead. I see another 200 hit season, and how about 300????? NOW WOULDN'T THAT BE a feather in his cap?
GO ICHIRO.

glad to see some people give Ichiro his due. He is consistent, fast, great arm, excellent defense, steals some bases and hits for average, plus 200 hits nine years in a row--get real, he may not be the best player ever, but he is Hall of Fame player.

Bigidiot, I don't know what watermelon has to do with Ichiro. But I am not even close as to folish enough to say that Ichiro is bad at baseball or a bad player. I believe that in the financial sturcture of baseball you can replace him for less money and put that money at cleanup where it belongs. Ichiro is a baseball version of Allen Iverson in his prime. Stats doesn't = wins and he strikes out a ton for a leadoff. You need to get walks to pile up pitch counts on opposing starting pitchers in playoff series. You cant do that with a guy who leads the team in at bats but swings at the first pitch or strikes out.

1bigdaddy49 - ?how many times a game does Pujols strike out? Or hit a long fly ball and not get on base? No comparison . You cant score if you cant get on base."

Are you kidding? Pujols has an OB% of .423, Ichiro's is .377.
Pujols walks more, gets on base more, hits more HR's, gets more RBI's, has a higher SLG%, OPS, hits more doubles and scores more runs...oh yes, AND has a higher career BA than Ichiro...the comparison isnt even close!

I like Ichiro, but you cant compare the two. Pujols has him in every major stats except for hits. And that is only because of AT BATS because Pujols has a higher BA! Pujols also strikesout LESS than Ichiro, albeit Ichiro has more at bats...I dont understand why you like to argue about this.

Both are great players, but Pujols is simply better.

Mauer,Pujols,Suzuki...I'm trying to figure out why these guys are all being compared with each other?

The first two are well over 6 feet tall-225 lbs. One has terrific power, the other's career numbers say average at best. Both consistently hit for high avg, both slow as grits...according to their stolen base totals.

The third guy mentioned is a leadoff hitter who's job is to get on base. An added attraction is he causes opposing pitchers to focus on HIM when on the base pathes, allowing guys like the previous two mentioned to zero in on fat pitches. He's not the greatest base stealer that I've ever watched, but I don't recall a faster player ever!

Now looking at defense which often seems to be a highly overlooked factor when making comparisons...
These guys play 3 different positions...completely different. But it would be interesting to me if every major league manager were polled as to which is the best at his repsective position?

3 terrific players!
All three with a chance at batting titles, one with a chance as the base stealing champ and one with a shot at a triple crown!

And 2 of the 3 most certainly taking the 'fast train' to Cooperstown!

Wow!
Suzuki's avg dropped TODAY? And someone else's avg increased TODAY? Then why don't we just award the other guy the batting crown TODAY? Come on,there's only three and a half months left in the baseball season! Everything is certain to remain status quo...right?

The idiocy of the mediocre fan never ceases to amaze me!

Are you asian bigdaddy? Shouldn't you be smalldaddy then? ichiro dropped to a 353 batting average today. Pujols hit a home run. Mauer raised his average to 430. Mauer had a gold glove last year. Ichiro leads the league in at bats every year, doesn't walk often, and never sacrifices. That will help you get a lot of hits.

Big daddy... why all the hostility? You sound like an angry, bitter little man. The only reason I pointed out Mauer's stats was not to claim his greatness over our boy Ichiro, but because you were spouting off about how Mauer isn't even in the top 20 on the leaderboards.

Seriously, if you are going to wax philosophical on this subject, at least get your facts/stats straight. "How many MVP trophies do either of them have" Pujols has TWO, Ichiro has one. He also has struck out fewer times than Suzuki, and he's been on base more times.

But don't let stupid things like facts get in the way of your opinion. Feel free to resume name-calling and screaming nonsensically at a webpage... FAN! DOOR! BOTTLE! WORD! PEANUT BUTTER! ZEBRA!

HEY BABY.....
PETE ROSE, TY COBB ROLLED INTO ONE, POTENTIALLY HALL OF FAME PLAYER. GO ICHIRO, GO..... PETE with 4000+ hits, COBB with 4000+ hits and maybe had ICHIRO started his career in MLB in the states, he would be in line to have over 4000+ hits as well. ICHIRO may not bet on baseball, and he might not sharpen his spikes to disable an opposing player after sliding into third base, or run over a catcher at home, but he is all as good a player as any one in the game. How many gold gloves does Pujols have? How many gold gloves does Mauer have? How many MVP trophies do either of those guys hold? Whenn was the last time you saw Pujols or Mauer hit an inside the park home run in any game not to mention the All Star Game? These are all geat players, Ichiro is not Griffey, Jr, but he is all the player any other player is and more.
GO ICHIRO
I would like to see the Mariners management go out and get more Japanese players the same caliber as Ichiro.
