News: Cook is still having trouble with the cut above his left knee and will not begin a rehabilitation assignment this week, WEEI.com reports. Cook told WEEI that the cut is "not healing quite right." Impact: Cook had the stitches removed from his knee and was scheduled to throw 50 pitches in the minors Tuesday, but that plan was cancelled. He will not have a schedule for the continuation of his rehab until he can be examined in Boston following the team's current road trip. Stepping back a bit for a wider view, if the Red Sox are considering any change to their starting staff, Daisuke Matsuzaka (elbow, neck, 60-day DL) is no longer an immediate threat to claim starts that could go to Cook. But we're getting ahead of ourselves there. Cook needs to get healthy himself to be considered for a spot in the rotation.(RotoWire, )

News: Cook (knee) threw a bullpen session Saturday, the Providence Journal reports. The session took place two days after Cook pitched a three-inning simulated game. Impact: Cook, who suffered a cut when his left knee was gashed by an opponent's cleat during his one start for Boston, was scheduled to have the stitches removed from his left knee following the bullpen session. Because of the stitches, Cook hadn't been able to run until recently, and he will need to build up the level of conditioning in his legs before he's ready for activation.(RotoWire, )
