News: Conrad is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Rockies. Impact: Conrad has started five games in a row for the Padres since being promoted from Triple-A last week, going 2-for-14 with a home run. Those numbers aren't exactly impressive, but with only the light-hitting Irving Falu behind him on the depth chart, Conrad should remain in the mix for consistent playing time.(RotoWire, )

News: Conrad crushed a solo shot during a 1-for-3 performance Sunday against the Giants. Impact: Since the Padres selected his contract last Wednesday, Conrad has started each of the team's three contests at second base due to injuries to three regulars: Jedd Gyorko (foot), Everth Cabrera (hamstring), and Yonder Alonso (wrist). Because Conrad's batting line versus lefties (.308/.378/.677) was actually more productive than that against right-handers (.265/.339/.482) at Triple-A El Paso this season, the 34-year-old may avoid the platoon that occasionally befalls fill-in players, especially due to his ability to handle first, second, third, and the outfield.(RotoWire, )

News: Conrad's contract was purchased from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports. Impact: Conrad will return to the majors for the first time since the 2012 campaign, which he spent with the Brewers and Rays. The 34-year-old was batting .275 with 18 homers and 57 RBI at Triple-A El Paso, and could get some run at second base with the Padres currently counting on the uninspiring likes of Alexi Amarista and Irving Falu.(RotoWire, )
