News: Doubront did not get a decision in Thursday's 4-3 win at Tampa Bay. Impact: Doubront gave up two runs, three hits, six walks and had seven strikeouts over five-plus innings for the Red Sox, who are 6-9 in May. He threw 104 pitches, including 54 strikes. "I felt a lot better," Doubront said.(STATS, 4:50pm)

News: Doubront walked a career-high six batters in five innings Thursday in Tampa Bay, but allowed only three hits and struck out seven. Impact: It took Doubront 104 pitches (just 54 for strikes) to labor through five innings, so this isn't really the big step forward he was looking for. Doubront's lost velocity stayed lost, too, as he was hovering around 90-91. Still, the left-hander was able to work out of a couple of jams and the Red Sox are viewing the outing as a positive.(RotoWire, )

News: Doubront threw an extra bullpen session between starts to work on changing the stride of his delivery, the Boston Herald reports. Impact: Doubront, who had his start pushed back to Thursday, has experienced decreased velocity in his fastball. With Franklin Morales (chest) progressing on a rehab assignment and Allen Webster pitching well in Triple-A, the Red Sox have some depth if they want to make a switch in the starting rotation.(RotoWire, )

News: Doubront's next start will come next Thursday against Tampa Bay, the Providence Journal reports. He'll be working on seven days rest. Impact: The Red Sox are using an off day Monday to shuffle the rotation a bit, allowing them to split up Doubront and John Lackey, the two pitchers least likely to give Boston deep outings at this stage of the season.(RotoWire, )

News: Doubront is expected to take his next turn through the starting rotation, but Red Sox manager John Farrell hasn't determined when that will be, the Providence Journal reports. Farrell is still committed to the idea of Doubront making his next start after being replaced this week by Allen Webster, but he's weighing a few factors before announcing an expected date. Impact: Beyond the drop in velocity Doubront's experiencing, the Red Sox have an off day coming up, so they can use that to tweak the rotation. In addition, there are concerns about taxing the bullpen when pitching Doubront and John Lackey on back-to-back days. Neither hurler gives the Red Sox length at this time -- Doubront because of inefficiency and Lackey because he's coming off Tommy John surgery.(RotoWire, )

News: Doubront came on in relief of Allen Webster on Wednesday and gave up six runs on 12 hits and two walks in 5.1 innings in Boston's loss to Minnesota. Impact: Doubront had been replaced by Webster as the starter for this game, but Webster was toast after giving up eight runs in 1.2 innings. Red Sox manager John Farrell is concerned about a drop in Doubront's velocity, but Webster's outing did not inspire confidence. Doubront is expected to take his next turn through the rotation.(RotoWire, )

News: Doubront will pitch out of the bullpen Tuesday against Minnesota. Impact: Doubront's stay in the rotation has come to a close, at least for now, after five starts. While he went 3-1 with 31 strikeouts in those outings, his peripherals -- a 5.67 ERA and 1.704 WHIP in 27 innings -- paint a different picture. Recent call-up Allen Webster will start for the Red Sox Wednesday, but according to WEEI.com, Doubront is slated to make his next turn in the rotation.(RotoWire, )

News: Doubront, who gave up six runs on 12 hits in 3.2 innings Friday, is experiencing a drop in his fastball velocity, the Boston Globe reports. Impact: Doubront regularly worked in the 92-93 mph range last season and could gear up to 96 mph when needed. However, on Friday, his best fastballs were 91 mph, with far more below 90. He insists this is not a physical issue, and manager John Farrell believes Doubront has lost some arm speed. For now, Doubront will try more arm-strengthening work between starts to get the heater back on track. It's a concern, noted Farrell.(RotoWire, )

News: Doubront was roughed up by the Rangers on Friday night, allowing six runs on 12 hits, walking one and striking out two over just 3.2 innings of a 7-0 loss. Impact: He needed 97 pitches and didn't complete four innings as Texas hit him hard all night. He's now 3-1 on the year, and he cut back on the usually troublesome walks, but 12 hits in three-plus innings is not a good trade off, and his 5.67 ERA is rather telling of his struggles. He'll get the Twins next time out, but he's a risky play.(RotoWire, )
