News: Broxton pitched a scoreless ninth inning Friday, allowing one walk while striking out two in a non-save situation against the Rays. Impact: He entered the game in the ninth with the Reds trailing 2-0 as he made his first 2014 appearance. He missed the first couple weeks and was just activated from the disabled list Tuesday. He is expected to fill the closer's role for Cincinnati until Aroldis Chapman returns, probably later this month.(RotoWire, )

News: Broxton (elbow) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Mark Sheldon of reports. Impact: With the move official, Broxton will assume closing duties until Aroldis Chapman (head) is able to pitch without issue. After pitching one scoreless inning apiece last Friday and Saturday at Double-A Pensacola, Broxton should be optimally rested to take on a save chance Tuesday at St. Louis, if one arises.(RotoWire, )

News: Broxton (elbow) has rejoined the Reds in St. Louis, but has not been activated from the DL yet. Impact: The Reds expect to activate Broxton during their series in St. Louis, perhaps as early as Tuesday. "Our intentions are to activate him over the course of the series here with the Cardinals," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "There's a good chance he will be activated tomorrow. He pitched back-to-back days. We wanted to give him at least two days off of recovery time after that, and then he will be in our mix."(RotoWire, )

News: Broxton (elbow), who will be activated from the DL on Tuesday, is expected to close while Aroldis Chapman (head) remains out, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Impact: Surgery to repair a torn flexor mass in August put Broxton behind schedule entering spring training, but GM Walt Jocketty confirmed that the right-hander will come off the DL early next week. While J.J. Hoover pitched in the ninth inning Wednesday and picked up the win when the Reds rallied, the Enquirer is reporting that Broxton will close upon activation. Chapman just recently resumed light workouts, but it's uncertain when he'll be cleared to throw.(RotoWire, )

News: Broxton (elbow) will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Impact: Broxton was forced to start the year on the DL, after undergoing surgery to repair a torn flexor mass in his forearm last August, but he'll be ready to contribute early in the second week of the season. Manager Bryan Price hasn't confirmed whether or not Broxton will close immediately upon his return but did say he was saving Sam LeCure for the save Friday, after deploying J.J. Hoover in the eighth inning, so Hoover doesn't appear to be a threat.(RotoWire, )

News: Broxton (elbow) could come off the DL next week and move into the closer's role until Aroldis Chapman (face) returns, according to manager Bryan Price, the Associated Press reports. Impact: Price opted against naming a fill-in closer after Chapman went down, but it sounds like Broxton could take over ninth-inning duties upon his activation from the DL. Broxton was limited to just 34 appearances last season due to injury, and struggled when healthy to a 4.11 ERA, but he has plenty of experience in the closer's role (111 career saves). The Reds signed him to a $21 million deal in 2012 to solidify the back end of the bullpen.(RotoWire, )
