News: Johnson's flexor strain is expected to undergo an evaluation this week, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Manager Bud Black stated, "He's feeling better, but he's not quite to where he needs to be. It's taking a little bit longer than we anticipated." Impact: Johnson's initial diagnosis of 4-to-5 weeks would afford a return Saturday, but with mound work not even on the horizon, early May appears to be a better guess for his season debut. His continued absence allows second-year pro Robbie Erlin to hold down the back of the Padres' rotation.(RotoWire, )

News: Johnson will have his right elbow examined by noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews next week. The right-hander is on the 15-day disabled list with a strained forearm. The Padres fear his initial injury may be worse than originally diagnosed. Impact: San Diego manager Bud Black says Johnson will meet with Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., on Tuesday or Wednesday. Black says Johnson has had some discomfort in the elbow. Andrews performed Tommy John surgery on Johnson's same elbow in 2007. Johnson signed a one-year deal in the offseason as a free agent. He strained his elbow during spring training and the Padres initially thought he would be out about one month. Johnson had surgery on his right elbow in the offseason.(STATS, 11:02pm)

News: Johnson (elbow) could need Tommy John surgery, Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports. Impact: Club officials told Passan that they are worried Johnson will need TJ surgery, which comes as no surprise, as we already knew Johnson's season was in danger and he was headed to visit Dr. James Andrews. He has tried to rehab the injury since spring training, and the lack of results have led him to this point. Those in single-season leagues without a DL spot can probably cut bait with Johnson at this point. Johnson could be the 22nd confirmed player this season to have the UCL replacement surgery.(RotoWire, )

News: Padres GM Josh Byrnes said Tuesday that he's "not sure" whether Johnson (forearm) will pitch this season, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Impact: Initially handed a 4-to-5 week estimate after landing on the DL with a flexor strain, Johnson now appears in danger of missing the entire 2014 season. Nothing's definite, but Johnson, who underwent Tommy John surgery in 2007, will visit Dr. James Andrews next week to determine a course of action.(RotoWire, )
