News: Oviedo says he expects to be ready to rejoin the Miami Marlins when he's eligible to return July 23. Oviedo last pitched as Leo Nunez, and his 2011 season ended abruptly in September after officials discovered he had been playing under a fake name since he turned professional in 2000. Impact: Oviedo was issued a new visa last week after clearing up his immigration status. He's back in the United States and spoke to reporters Tuesday at the Marlins' spring training complex. The Dominican has begun serving an eight-week suspension from Major League Baseball for age and identity fraud. News: Oviedo received a pardon from the U.S. State Department, a mandatory requirement for eligibility for a visa to travel to the United States, a source told ESPN Deportes. Oviedo told teammate Edward Mujica that he could return to the States as early as June 1, the Miami Herald reports. Impact: It's not clear when Oviedo will actually arrive in the United States, but it sounds like he's cleared the biggest hurdle in his legal battle to return to MLB. However, he faces an eight-week suspension from MLB for playing under a false identity (he was formerly known as Leo Nunez) when he returns. With the pardon, he now needs the United States to issue him a visa. That's expected to happen at some point in the next two weeks. If all goes as quickly as possible, he could return to the Marlins in a setup role at some point in August.(RotoWire, )
