News: With manager Rick Renteria indicating after Tuesday's game that Mike Olt would receive a full run of starts at third base, Valbuena appears poised to serve primarily as a bench player for the foreseeable future, Gorden Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Impact: Valbuena opened the season in a rotation at third base with Olt, but Olt's impressive power numbers were enough to eventually create separation in the competition. Olt's poor contact skills occasionally make him prone to long slumps and might end up costing him his starting job at a later date, but until that happens, Valbuena won't hold much value outside of NL-only leagues.(RotoWire, )

News: Valbuena went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks in a 4-1 loss to the Reds on Friday. Impact: Valbuena's RBI single ended a 24-inning scoreless drought for the Cubs, but it wasn't enough. He has just a .658 OPS in 31 at-bats this year, but his competition at third base, Mike Olt, isn't faring much better. They're both just keeping the seat warm for Kris Bryant at this point.(RotoWire, )
