News: Despite throwing both Saturday and Sunday, Pirates manager, Clint Hurdle, said there's a chance Melancon may be available Monday, too, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Impact: Hurdle doesn't like using relievers three days consecutively, but with Jason Grilli and Tony Watson unavailable, Melancon could get a shot at a save against Cincinnati.(RotoWire, )

News: Melancon, who already has compiled seven holds in 2014, could potentially move into the closer's role for Pittsburgh if Jason Grilli's struggles continue, though the team has yet to make any such statements to that effect. Impact: Grilli has blown three of his seven save opportunities while Melancon has resembled the effective pitcher he was for much of 2013, when he compiled 16 saves while Grilli was hurt. It's conceivable Melancon initially gets save chances for a short period while Grilli works to resolve his early-season struggles, with the team then giving Grilli another shot after a week or two. Pittsburgh can ill afford to continue blowing save opportunities in the competitive N.L. Central.(RotoWire, )
