News: With Maicer Izturis (knee) potentially out for the season, Goins faces improved prospects for playing time once Jose Reyes (hamstring) returns from injury. Impact: Prior to Izturis' injury, Goins, who has been starting at shortstop, appeared to be in danger of moving to a bench role once Reyes returned. Now, Goins will likely be the Jays' starter at second base against right-handed pitching, while either Jonathan Diaz or Munenori Kawasaki figures to start against lefties. Reyes could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Friday, at which point Goins will have likely played nine or 10 games at shortstop, giving him eligibility in some leagues.(RotoWire, )

News: Goins logged his sixth game (fourth start) of the season at shortstop in Friday's 2-0 win over the Orioles. Impact: Goins and Jonathan Diaz have been platooning at shortstop, while Maicer Izturis has been a regular starter at second base. Izturis is off to a nice start that almost certainly won't last, and Goins is 1-for-22 with one walk and nine strikeouts. Goins, a left-handed hitter, has the better half of a platoon and will likely earn dual position eligibility in most leagues soon, but he's not a base-stealer and doesn't have much potential with the bat. With Jose Reyes (hamstring) coming along as expected in his recovery, Goins will move back to second base within the next few weeks, and may have to fend off Maicer Izturis for playing time. Manager John Gibbons has yet to start Goins against a lefty.(RotoWire, )

News: Goins started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 in Thursday's 7-2 loss to the Rays. Impact: The Blue Jays previously indicated that Goins would stick at second base with Jose Reyes (hamstring) on the DL, but it looks like the light-hitting infielder could end up with shortstop eligibility. It still isn't entirely clear how the playing time will be divided, as Goins, Maicer Izturis and Jonathan Diaz are capable of handling both middle-infield spots. Goins and Diaz have each started two of the Jays' first four games, while Izturis has started three. None of the trio offer much offensive upside, and all three should see at least a few starts per week until Reyes returns.(RotoWire, )
