News: Zimmerman (thumb) will not need surgery but is still expected to miss 4-6 weeks, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports. Impact: A specialist found Zimmerman's bone to still be set, so he won't need to go under the knife, but the 29-year-old will need more than a month to allow the bone to heal. The Nats placed Zimmerman on the 15-day DL on Sunday, after he hurt his thumb sliding back into the second base bag on a pickoff attempt Saturday.(RotoWire, )

News: Zimmerman (thumb) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday. Impact: This move should come as no surprise, as Zimmerman is expected to miss the next 4-to-6 weeks with a broken thumb. In his absence, Anthony Rendon will likely cover third base, while Danny Espinosa will take over at the keystone. Zach Walters, who was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday to take Zimmerman's roster spot, may also come into the mix.(RotoWire, )

News: The Washington Nationals placed third baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a broken right thumb. Zimmerman is expected to miss four to six weeks. Impact: General manager Mike Rizzo said Zimmerman will see a hand specialist at the Cleveland Clinic on Monday.(STATS, 10:02pm)

News: Zimmerman will miss the next 4-to-6 weeks with a broken thumb. Impact: This is terrible news for owners and the Nats, who are already dealing with injuries to Denard Span (concussion), Wilson Ramos (wrist) and Jayson Werth (groin). Zimmerman broke his thumb after jamming it into second base while getting picked off during a slide back into the bag in the fifth inning of Saturday's game. In all likelihood, it will be Anthony Rendon who fills in for Zimmerman at third base, while Zimmerman's recovery timetable tentatively slates him for a return in mid-to-late May.(RotoWire, )

News: Zimmerman went 2 for 4 with a three-run homer in a 7-6 loss to Atlanta in 10 innings Friday. Impact: The Washington third baseman is 4 for 11 (.364) in his three games since returning from an ailing right shoulder. He's boosted his season average to .355.(STATS, 7:52pm)

News: Zimmerman left Saturday's game in the fifth inning after getting picked off at second base. He appeared to have a bloody thumb after jamming his right hand sliding back to the bag, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports. Impact: Zimmerman was replaced at third by Anthony Rendon, while Danny Espinosa subbed in to cover second. Although it doesn't sound like this is related to Zimmerman's nagging shoulder issue that has caused him to miss time in the past, owners will no doubt be disheartened to see the veteran third baseman go down with another injury. More information on his status should be made available by the Nats shortly.(RotoWire, )

News: Zimmerman hit a three-run homer in a losing effort against Atlanta on Friday night, adding a single and a walk. Impact: He was again at third base and it appears the altered throwing motion he is now using has lessened the strain on his balky shoulder. If he can't play productively at third base, the Nationals would have a difficult time getting him everyday at-bats.(RotoWire, )

News: Zimmerman (shoulder) is back in the lineup Wednesday against the Marlins, CSN Washington reports. Impact: Zimmerman will man his usual spot at third base, reverting to a sidearm throwing motion on his throws so as not to worsen the shoulder discomfort. It seems like the shoulder issue is going to be something that Zimmerman might have to deal with the rest of the season, and while it's not dramatically expected to limit his impact with the bat, it could make him a liability defensively for the Nationals.(RotoWire, )

News: Zimmerman is back in the starting lineup after working on a lower throwing motion to try to help his sore right shoulder. Impact: Zimmerman took about 25 practice throws several hours before Washington's game against Miami on Wednesday. He says the switch from an over-the-top delivery to more of a sidearm throw is "a work in progress, but there's no pain." Zimmerman hasn't played in the field since Saturday, when a throwing error led to a pair of unearned runs in a loss to Atlanta. He pinch-hit Sunday, the Nationals were off Monday, and he did not play Tuesday. Zimmerman won an NL Gold Glove award in 2009 but has encountered shoulder problems in recent years and had surgery after the 2012 season.(STATS, 7:11pm)

News: Zimmerman was spotted working out at first base before Wednesday's game, MLB.com's William Ladson reports. Impact: He's back in the lineup Wednesday and will man third base, but the fact that he's using some of his time before the game to get some work in at first base, leads us to believe we could see him get some starts there in the near future. The Nationals could opt to give Adam LaRoche an occasional day off and slide Anthony Rendon over to third, with Danny Espinosa's above average glove moving to second base. Zimmerman's inability to consistently make accurate throws from third base have been well-documented, but given that their best lineup includes LaRoche, it won't be a regular alignment, at least not this year.(RotoWire, )

News: Zimmerman (shoulder) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday. Impact: While Zimmerman gets another day off, Danny Espinosa gets another spin at second base while Anthony Rendon handles Zimmerman's usual responsibilities on the hot corner. Zimmerman was on the field taking grounders and working on a modified throwing motion with defensive coach Mark Weidemaiter on Tuesday afternoon.(RotoWire, )

News: Zimmerman (shoulder) hopes to return to the lineup Wednesday, Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports. Impact: Manager Matt Williams backtracked on a bit on his statement Monday, when he described Zimmerman's shoulder as "arthritic," saying that because of the wear and tear, "degenerative" is a better word. Either way, the shoulder is clearly an issue, but Williams suggested he is optimistic Zimmerman will be able to return to third base Wednesday. The 29-year-old tweaked his delivery in on-field drills Tuesday, and said the sidearm motion felt much better.(RotoWire, )

News: Zimmerman is out of the starting lineup against the Marlins as he works through problems with his throwing shoulder. Zimmerman says he hopes to play Wednesday night against Miami. Impact: He hasn't played in the field in a game since leaving Saturday's loss to Atlanta in the fifth inning because of soreness in his shoulder. An inning earlier, a throwing error by Zimmerman led to a pair of unearned runs. That was his second throwing error this season.(STATS, 12:31pm)

News: Zimmerman tied his career high with four hits, including three that led off innings, in a 8-2 win over the New York Mets on Thursday. Impact: His second-inning home run off Zack Wheeler (0-1) started the Nationals' comeback from a 2-0 deficit. Zimmerman has a hit in each of the first four games this season, going 7 for 17 (.412) with three RBIs.(STATS, 7:08pm)
