News: Smith made his 10th start of the season in place of Carlos Quentin in left field Monday against the Rockies, chipping in a single and one run in three at-bats. Impact: Smith aided in the Padres' eighth-inning comeback, drawing a walk immediately after pinch hitter Xavier Nady did the same. As the bottom of the framed ensued, both moved around the bases on a wild pitch by Rex Brothers and a throwing error by Wilin Rosario shortly thereafter, turning s 4-3 deficit into an eventual 5-4 victory. No matter, Smith has been a worthy stand-in for Quentin, notching hits in four of the last six contests en route to a .250 average (5-for-20), two doubles, two RBI, two runs, and a 2:6 BB:K. Quentin himself has progressed to participation in batting practice, but with a rehab assignment still to come, Smith should hold down the fort in left for the time being.(RotoWire, )
