News: Alonso is not in the lineup Thursday against the Rockies. Impact: Alonso has played the last nine games for the Padres, including both halves of a doubleheader with the Indians last week, so he'll get a rest in advance of the team's weekend series with the Giants. Lefty Franklin Morales is slated to start for the Rockies on Thursday, and Alonso's vulnerability against southpaws might not have made him particularly useful to fantasy owners had he been in the lineup.(RotoWire, )

News: Alonso took grounders at third base before Wednesday's game, U-T San Diego's Jeff Sanders reports. Impact: Yasmani Grandal also was seen taking ground balls at the hot corner, with Chase Headley dealing with a mild biceps strain. It's not clear how serious Headley's injury is, but they could also be getting work in at third in the anticipation of Headley possibly getting dealt this season, or not re-signing for 2015 and beyond. Alonso has a below average bat at first base, but he would see a slight uptick in value if he gained third base eligibility.(RotoWire, )

News: Alonso contributed a sac fly during a 0-for-3 performance Sunday in Miami. Impact: Alonso's season already includes a four-game hitting streak, but because he's produced only one base knock in each of those contests, he boasts a measly .174/.167/.261 slash line on the season. However, he's posted useful counting stats in his 23 at-bats -- three RBI, one run, and one stolen base -- meaning he could be a viable corner infield option, if his success at the plate turns around.(RotoWire, )
