MEDICAL WATCH:

LHP Aaron Laffey (inflamed left elbow) was shut down for the remainder of the season Sept. 4.

DH Travis Hafner (right shoulder irritation) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 26, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on July 27. He was examined by Dr. James Andrews on June 18 and it was determined he would not need surgery on his injured right shoulder. He took live batting practice Aug. 14, and he began a minor league rehab assignment Aug. 18. However, he still was feeling pain in the shoulder and was held out of several rehab games. He will resume his rehab Sept. 5 with Class AA Akron.

RHP Scott Elarton (non-baseball medical condition) went on the 15-day disabled list July 8, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on July 20. He is out indefinitely.

RHP Jake Westbrook (sore right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 29, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on June 13. He had season-ending Tommy John surgery June 12. In early September, he was experiencing right hip pain. He had surgery Sept. 5 to clean out the hip joint.
