Canseco to fight ex-NFL Pro Bowler for $5K

Jose Canseco put out a challenge, and a former NFL Pro Bowler has answered the bell.

Canseco, the former Oakland A's slugger and reality TV veteran who recently revealed that the mortgage on his home had been foreclosed, offered $5,000 to anyone who would step into the ring with him and headline a boxing card in Atlantic City this summer.

Now he has an opponent.

According to multiple published reports Tuesday, former Eagles kick returner and two-time Pro Bowler Vai Sikahema will fight Canseco in a July 12 bout at the Atlantic City Bernie Robbins Stadium.

Though Canseco, 43, has a size advantage on Sikahema (6-foot-4, 240 pounds compared to 5-9, 190 pounds — according to their variously recorded playing weights), Sikahema, 45, may have more boxing experience. The Tonga native famously did a goalpost-punching celebration dance after scoring a kick return touchdown against the Giants in 1992.

The boxing stunt is evidently a plan Canseco hatched to deal with his deepening financial woes. He has been through two costly divorces, rumored to have cost him as much as $8 million each.

Lets face it. If Jose went away from the lime light the world would be a better place......now I have a song in my head.

Jose is slow, old, and from what everyone got out of the last fight stupid.
He talks a big...no huge game which he can't back up. The Yankees should sign Jose and have him clean up chew spit in the dug-out and A-bobtheknob can have mad, wild, man on man loving with him. If Jeter wouldn't mind.

While I am not a fan of Jose Canseco, I appreciate what he did for MLB. Aliennsexfiend claims Canseco, "TARNISHED THE INTEGRITY OF AMERICA'S GREATEST JOY. BASEBALL." I adamantly disagree. He just exposed the filth that was taking over the game. Baseball and it's players and management are the ones who tarnished the game. Granted Canseco was one of them, he didn't force all those dirty players to take steroids. Although baseball may have suffered thorough being exposed as a sport with cheaters, in the long run, it will benefit the game and its fans. About the fight, Vai better bring his "A" game, Jose is a beast and not only strong, but athletic as well.

I hope that Vai kicks the dog-$$$t out of that bum. Canseco you is a dirtbag and I'd sunday punch him the first chance I got. I would use a tire iron or better yet, a baseball bat to knock out his f^^^ing brains, what brains that yo-yo has.

First read I thought he was going to fight an ex-bowler. That would be more his speed I think. 5'5" 125lb Pro-Bowler.

What's sad is that so many readers don't see this as the scripted publicity stunt that it is.

Isn't Vai a bishop or stake president, or something like that? You got to love the entreprenurial spirit of the Mormons! Maybe it will be on a Saturday night! If so, make quick work of him, Vai, you got meetings early Sunday and there's no pressure like the pressure of being late to one of those! Go get him, Vai! Kick his _ _ _! We'll see you at church.

Hit him in his tiny shrunk up steroid little balls! (If his ex-wives don't have them in a jar already)!!!!!!!

The ONLY reason Jose wrote that book in the first place was to make $$. He was not trying to be some model citizen, give me a break. This boxing stunt is about $$ for him. Jose will make at least 4 times what Vai makes!

Too bas that bear in 'Semi Pro' had to be put down for killing his traininer...now that would make an interesting fight ticket

Vai Sikahema is a sports reporter on our local NBC affiliate so I will be rooting for him all the way.

It's funny, Canseco agrees to fight a guy 7" shorter and 50 lbs lighter... and they STILL have to describe him as a pro-bowler to give him SOME sort of credibility. The story says Vai might have some previous boxing experience because one time he boxed the goalpost when he scored.

Who is responsible for writing this CRAP and why don't they have any actual JOURNALISM training?

here's hoping that canseco's melon head will be detached from it's shoulders by sikahema.
