Bud Selig has ordered an investigation into Manny Ramirez's split with the Boston Red Sox, according to a report in the Boston Globe.

The paper reports a source directly linked to the investigation says Bud Selig has directed Major League Baseball executive vice president Rob Manfred to contact everyone involved in the trade to the Dodgers for individual accounts of how the transaction unfolded.

Ramirez became a disruptive force to the team in the days and weeks leading up to the trade deadline, apparently in hopes of forcing a trade.

When the trade to L.A. was reached, the Globe reported that Scott Boras called the Red Sox and said Ramirez would stay and play hard for the rest of the season if the team would agree to drop two $20 million option years at the end of his deal.

Boras denied making any such call, telling the paper: "In no way did I make a call regarding having the trade intervened with. My job is to do what is best for my client. It was Boston's decision to trade him. He had the ability to control where he played. He wanted his living environment to be a place where he and his family were as comfortable as they were in Cleveland."

Boras, who took over representing Ramirez after he had already signed his deal with the Red Sox and therefore saw none of that money, would have obvious finiancial incentive to see him become a free agent.

According to the report, Manfred has yet to report back to Selig.

Manny is 21 for 45 with 5HRS 16RBIS in 12 games, and batting a scorching .467. The Dodgers are now tied for first. The manager is always the team leader. Joe Torre needed a leader on the field. Manny gives him that! Just ask Nomar. Listen to what he said to his teammates before last nights game. 'We can't let Manny carry the team on his shoulders'? Guess who is the teamleader. Nomar cracked a game winning HR. Jeff Kents bat suddenly came to life 4 for 5. The Dodgers were behind 6-1. Joe Torre knew exactly what his tem needed. Oh, by the way, Manny hit 2 run HR to, and got walked twice. We beat the Yanks with the long ball today. Gee, I thought it was only the 250 million dollar payroll Yanks that were allowed to do that! We have young guys with alot of speed. Bosox? Yankees? Old legs on old players. Manny not a leader? I think he got what he wanted, a team that wants to win badly. Leaders always get what they want!

A footnote; Manny is hitting .459 since the trade, and has been a major offensive weapon in winning games. He might be alittle lazy looking going after a hit, but watch his rifle of an arm. If he gets the chance, you'll be out at secondbase. The Dodgers have a good chance to make the playoffs, despite a .500 record. The Yankees have an equal chance of not making the playoffs. The Twins, of course, will be waiting, and now that Manny is gone, the Red Sox are dust!

I won't argue with Manny, 24HR 81RBI 75R is keep my mouth shut and watch him play. I am a Twins fan, and in the last series with the Bosox, Manny beat us singlehandedly, both on offense and defense. His playing for the Dodgers under a discarded but great mananger might give them the edge they need to beatout the D'Backs. Here in TC land, if Manny had been traded to the red, white, and blue, our young players would go crazy just being his teammate. The 24HR 81RBI 75R mean nothing (besides a .316BA). The Red Sox lost their team leader. Manny inspires all of us who watch or play baseball, dreadlocks and all. Remember, I am TC fan, and I hate Manny (baseball wise), and I am very happy that he is in the National league!!! Wish it could have happened earlier!

you too loserlegends. what the hell do you guys know about Manny? I've been watching this guy be a #### for 8 years. Enough is enough. He knew what he was doing. he was acting like a 6 year old girl when he wouldn't get his way. The Red Sox supressed it so long as he was hitting. He wasn't hitting THAT great anymore, and he was causing turmoil in the clubhouse. His behavior was purposely created to send a message and it was unprofessional and class-less. Manny definitely wouldn't be putting up his LA numbers in Boston. He'd probably fake another injury and complain about everything. <br /><br />Anything else to add smartass?<br /><br />Lots more to add but you have neither the mental capacity to understand nor the stones to admit you are wrong.<br /><br />As a Yankee fan, we've been watching the same Manny as you fools for jsut as long. Every time he hit a homer off of aYankee picther, and pimped at the plate for like 10 seconds, you fans screamed liked you just won the lottery.<br /><br />Like I said, hypocrites.<br /><br />Theo got punked by the biggest punk in baseball and Yankee World Order is laughing their phu c k ing butts off.<br /><br />Anything else to add skippy?

EMPLOYMENT AT WILL, WELCOME TO AMERICA. It seems ridiculous to debate the why's. If all fans can do is complain that is why LA is okay with the trade. We want hits. Not drama girls<br /><br />peace

Bosox21,<br />What do you know about Manny? What are you People magazine or something? You provide an intelligent and well thought out response, sarcasm. As a matter of fact, your organization allowed it to happen, build and and fester and now you don't like it. You said it yourself the Sox suppressed it. Now the Red Sox are looking a lot like the Packers and Brett Favre. Your repsonse tells me all I need to confirm how classless Sox fans really are. Stick with your conspiracy theory if it makes you sleep better at night.<br /><br />Do you have anything else to add?

(Report inappropriate content)

So let me try to understand this... The Red Sox allowed Manny to become Manny and tolerated his behaviors as long as he kept hitting for them. Now that Manny is hitting for the Dodgers the Red Sox are crying foul. You traded him get past it and move on.

YAWN<br /><br />If they didn't prove the whole JD Drew deal was illigal, what makes anyone think they will do a dam n thing about Manny?<br /><br />Manny kicking serious azz for the Dodgers. Shame on all you jaded Sox fans for thinking anything different. If your organization had any class they would have sat him down long ago and stopped his circus side show. Theo is a punk and just got punked by the best right handed bat in baseball. Gonna bite you hard before the season is out.<br />Nothing like the Boston media to slander a guy who single handedly brought you a ring in 2004. All this sh it about Manny not playing is BS believed nowhere outside of chowder town. <br />Hypocrites.

I guess 20 million a year can't make things comfortable in Boston. He's got a lot of balls to make such a comment after 2 World Series and 8 years . Tell me money isn't the WHOLE issue.

Boras as I said and stand by, is a bad human being. Not to say that I am perfect or that anyone here deserves the "Good" title for talking bad about other people behind their backs. But his ploys are used to make him and his clients money. Drew Rosenhaugs (Spelling?) does the same, and other big name agents as well. That's the buisness, that's what they get paid to do, and they do a pretty good job. They also do a good job of ruining the sport by allowing certain players to feel they are worth more than the talent they put on the field. If I had an agent like Boras, knowing what contracts he got for effin Jeff Weaver, I would command 40.00 an hour while having them pay for my current college tuition. Oh and that I can put in a "poison pill" clause stating that I can claim ignorance to the sexual harassment pages in our orientation packet.

He had the ability to control where he played. He wanted his living environment to be a place where he and his family were as comfortable as they were in Cleveland."<br /><br /><br /><br />Sure he had the ability to control where he played WHEN his contract expired or the Sox released him. The way he tanked on his team is indefensible.<br />Suddenly his life in Cleveland was a fairy tale? Why did he can it before he left the Indians too? Boras and Manny should no doubt be called on this one. Enough is enough.
