Pitt's Blair returns to practice

Sophomore center DeJuan Blair returned to practice Wednesday afternoon, one day after sitting out of Pitt's 74-60 victory over Belmont.

Blair, who had swelling in his right knee, is probable for Friday's game against Texas Tech in the semifinals of the Legends Classic in Newark, N.J.

Pro basketball

? LeBron James and Microsoft Corp. have ended a two-year marketing partnership.

Baseball

? Right-hander Kameron Loe was put on unconditional release waivers by the Texas Rangers , freeing him to sign with the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks of Japan's Pacific League.

College football

? Two Florida State freshman wide receivers -- Bert Reed and Cameron Wade -- were arrested on misdemeanor battery charges stemming from a fight in the student union. No suspensions have been announced for Saturday's game against Florida.

? Yale coach Jack Siedlecki announced he's retiring after 12 years and two Ivy League championships, but he'll be staying at the university to become assistant athletic director.

Pro football

? Cleveland Browns coach Romeo Crennel says quarterback Brady Quinn will miss Cleveland's final five games with a broken right index finger and the injury may require surgery.

? Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter apologized for not leaving the field during Sunday's game against New England, but he said the incident was blown out of proportion.

? The NFL fined New England's Matt Light and Miami's Channing Crowder $15,000 apiece for what the league called "a verbal and physical altercation" last Sunday.

? Chicago Bears defensive back Nathan Vasher has a fractured right hand and will miss Sunday night's game against the Minnesota Vikings.

? The Dallas Cowboys put rookie running back Felix Jones on injured reserve and signed defensive back Tra Battle off San Diego's practice squad.

? The Denver Broncos signed free-agent fullback Andrew Pinnock.

? The Seattle Seahawks signed tackle Kyle Williams from their practice squad and released veteran tight end Jeb Putzier.

Hockey

? Washington Capitals forward Chris Clark will be sidelined at least three weeks with a stress fracture in his forearm.

Soccer

? Five-time winner Liverpool, Italian champion Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid joined 10 other qualifiers for the last knockout phase of the Champions League. Chelsea still has work to do in the final round of games after a 1-1 tie with Bordeaux.

Tennis

? Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will open the 2009 ATP season by playing at the Qatar Open.

Off the field

? Armand "Bep" Guidolin, who at 16 became the youngest player to skate in an NHL game and later coached Hall of Famer Bobby Orr, has died. He was 82.
