Sources: A's up offer, look like leaders for Furcal

The A's have improved their initial four-year offer to Furcal, according to major-league sources.
Furcal, 31, does not appear to have another four-year proposal, though negotiations are fluid and subject to change.
Furcal's agent, Paul Kinzer, said last week that the A's, Dodgers, Blue Jays and Royals were the four finalists for his client. Other teams, however, could be in the mix.
The Dodgers will not offer Furcal four years and maybe not even three, sources say. The Jays are unable to compete economically. The Royals might need to trade outfielder Jose Guillen to clear payroll.
Guillen, 32, is owed $24 million over the next two seasons, but Royals officials say that moving him would be counter-productive because the team needs his power.
The A's initial four-year offer to Furcal was believed to be for between $35 million and $40 million. The Dodgers and other clubs have been reluctant to offer him four years due to his injury history.
If Furcal signs with the A's, the Dodgers could turn to free-agent shortstop Orlando Cabrera or re-sign free agent Angel Berroa, a lesser player. They also could revive trade talks for the Pirates' Jack Wilson.

dodgers must need some goverment assitance, Bailout money or whatever, they don't have the balls to sign anyone and pretend to be trying to improve the team, we all know they have no plans ro sign Manny or any other high profile players, they will feed us this BS about going with their great farm system. What a pitty to have 2 cheap morons like Mc Court and Colleti running the team.

Thanks, KCSports, but I think I owe yellerdog an apology. <br /><br />After re-reading yellerdog's post, I think he/she/they meant it as it's written. Plus, the whole post is thoughtful and insightful and coherent. Kind of unusual, once you think about it. <br /><br />So, I'll go on with my grammer patrol, all the time trying to ignore the postings which shouldn't even be on the boards, like yellerdog so astutely alluded to. Good job, yellerdog.<br /><br />I just think it's hilarious that FOX will bleep the alternate version of the name "Richard," but they let these sex site sleezes post anything they want.

Packu,<br />I couldn't care more about your appreciation for the English language. Thanks for staightening ME out. <br /><br />Cricket...maybe you should apply for some good old US bailout $$$ and use them to sign Furcal. Let's see, Toronto or KC?? Nah, don't see it happening for either team. Royals and WalMart owner rules out landing Furcal. IMO the latest offer by the A's would appear to be awfully steep. We need to take our FA presents home and find a 2B/SS elsewhere.

Oh yeah, the Furcal thing:<br /><br />Just the millionth example of big money in sports. I wonder what the comparative payrolls of the Phillies & Rays were this past season.

Yes, yellerdog is almost correct:<br /><br />Please, DO NOT be like Brett Favre and say, "I could care less." It's supposed to be, "I couldn't care less." <br /><br />See, if you could care less, that means you still care, at least some amount. If you couldn't care less, that means you couldn't care any lesser amount, which is what most people mean, but don't say. Like Brett.<br /><br />I know, I'll be tabbed the grammer police. Better than posting a sex site that has no place on these boards, but Rupert & FOX must get a kick-back from them, the way I see it.

yellerdog &Observr:<br /><br />You are both correct, whenever I have time I copy those comments and send to Fox as "inappropriate content." I'm not sure it does much good but it makes me feel a bit better!

Its not fair having a team with their country economy down,Toronto should file for atleast a little extra cash to compete with other teams<br />Its not their fault they are in economic turmoil.

Enforcer, agree with you "big time". It has been the Dodger way, to sign veterans at a lower term with a little more $$$, to avoid these long term deals. Dodgers can't gamble on a 4 year deal to an injury prone player. L.A saved some $$$ now lets spend it on re-signing Manny, Tejeda, and maybe a Randy Johnson for 1 year. Go Dodgers!!!

"The Jays are unable to compete economically."<br />The Blue Jays really need another descent starting pitcher and a Big Bat. I don't think SS is a pressing need right now for them.

This is sad. 3 comments (4 now) and 2 are advertisements.

If Furcal leaves the Dodgers for the A's, the Dodgers need to go after Tejada in a trade. He is also a big bat for them in case Manny doesn't sign with them. Come on Coletti, get your head out and start getting the players needed to compete!
