The Cubs' Mark DeRosa has accepted an invitation to play for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, according to a major-league source.

DeRosa's ability to play all four infield positions and the outfield corners should make him valuable to Team USA manager Davey Johnson.

Provisional rosters for the Classic will be announced Jan. 19. The final 28-man list will be announced Feb. 24, and Team USA will begin training in Clearwater, Fla., on March 2.

DeRosa, 33, batted .285 for the Cubs last season, producing career- highs with 21 homers and 87 RBIs.

The Indians' Grady Sizemore, Brewers' Ryan Braun and Braves' Chipper Jones and Brian McCann are among the other players who have accepted invitations to play for Team USA.
