Cards land Reyes with two-year, $3M deal
In addition to his salary, Reyes could earn $500,000 over the deal in performance bonuses.
St. Louis had been in the market for a bullpen complement to left-handed reliever Trever Miller.
Royce Ring, Charlie Manning and non-roster invitee Ian Ostlund were among the pitchers competing for that role, but the team apparently was not satisfied with those options.
"They're going to have to start showing something that enables us to give them more opportunities to pitch," Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Tuesday.
Enter Reyes, who has played for nine other teams in his 12 major league seasons. He was most recently with the Twins from 2006-2008, where he had some of his best years. Reyes went 10-1 over 191 games with Minnesota and compiled a 2.14 ERA.
For his career, Reyes is 32-32 with a 4.28 ERA.
