Local baseball Blue Sox find success at home

The Holyoke Blue Sox returned home to Mackenzie Field and success.

Four pitchers combined to throw a four-hitter and shutout Newport, 5-0, Thursday night in New England Collegiate Baseball League play.

Chase Brewer went the first four innings and allowed all four hits to Newport (8-5). Mitchell Beacon (1-0), Dillon Fontaine and Matt Compton followed with no-hit relief.

Mike Nemeth led the offensive attack for the Blue Sox (8-6) with three hits, including a pair of doubles and two RBIs.

Jake Rosenbeck was 3 for 4 and Jim Wood added a single to extend his hitting streak to five games.

AMERICAN LEGION

Palmer 6, Ludlow 0: Ethan Dubois and Steve Siller combined on a lone-hitter as Post 130 evened its record at 4-4.

Dubois started and went six innings, allowing a hit and three walks with two strikeouts. Steve Swiatlowski had three hits Siller two hits and Ben Murphy a hit and two RBIs for Palmer.

Wilbraham Funeral 7, Orange 6: Wilbraham Funeral Home won a one-run game for the second straight night, this time scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win it.

Matt Warren smacked a two-run double to tie the game in the seventh and Corey Pope singled to plate Warren with the winning run for Wilbraham (4-4), which was coming off a 1-0 win over Belchertown on Wednesday.

Brady Forrest, who added a pair of hits, earned the win in relief.

Evan Armentrout had a pair of hits and Garrett O'Brien a triple and two RBIs for Orange.

Aldenville 4, West Springfield 2: Ryan Burnette settled down after the first inning and pitched Aldenville to a road win.

Burnette blanked West Side after allowing two runs in the first inning. He gave up eight hits and two walks.

Joe Chapdelaine had two hits and two RBIs for Aldenville and Anthony Kmeczik had an RBI-triple.

Dave Clark and Mark Sypek had RBI singles for West Side.

Holyoke 8, Belchertown 6 (8): Holyoke scored four times in the sixth inning to tie the game and won it with two in the eighth.

Melvin Mattei had a home run and a double while Brian Reardon had a pair of hits. Brian Allen was the winning pitcher and Miguel Rivera earned the save.

Cory Menard had three hits and two RBIs and Jeff Grossman a pair of hits and two RBIs for Belchertown.

Easthampton 10, East Side 7: East Springfield scored three runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game but Easthampton answered with three of its own to pull away.

Sean O'Hare was 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs, Mike Konarski had a pair of doubles with three RBIs and Jonathan Hernandez had a single and triple for Easthampton.

Mike DeSimone had three hits and two RBIs for East Side.

Amherst 3, Longmeadow 2: Sean Cunningham earned the win in relief and Dean Bonneau had the save.

Bobby Curkhoff delivered a two-run triple for Amherst (7-1).

Chicopee TBP 7, Greenfield 2: Dan Asselin picked up the win and belted a three-run homer among his four hits on the night.

Rey Guzman was 3 for 4 and Joe Perlak delivered a pair of RBIs.

Westfield 6, South Hadley 2: Adam Chrzanowski had three hits while Trevor Laraway and Ryan Smith two apiece as Westfield won at home.

TRI-COUNTY

Manny's 4, Chicopee Falls Tigers 3: John Wilkes had three hits and two RBIs as Manny's held off the Tigers.

Darren Lewis and B.J. Robinson had RBIs for the Tigers.
