Tigers left-hander Nate Robertson, who underwent surgery Tuesday to remove four small cysts from his left elbow, is expected to resume throwing in four weeks, according to his agent, Steve Canter.

"It was a minor procedure, but the results potentially could be very, very large," Canter said. "(The cysts) were causing numbness and tingling around the ulnar nerve. Now all that is freed up."

Robertson, 31, failed to make the Tigers' rotation out of spring training and struggled as a reliever, posting a 7.71 ERA in 21 games. He spent time on the disabled list with a lower back strain in May, then returned to the DL because of his elbow problem Sunday.

The Tigers are paying him $7 million this season, and he is under contract for $10 million next season.
