Rays give up righty Abreu for Indians' Meloan

The Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday acquired right-handed pitcher John Meloan from the Cleveland Indians for right-hander Winston Abreu.

Meloan has appeared in seven major-league games, but none this season. In those seven games, he has given up nine runs in 9 1/3 innings.

Abreu has appeared in 35 career games, sporting a 6.43 ERA over 42 innings.

Abreu was 3-0 with 10 saves and a 1.41 ERA in 23 games at Triple-A Durham.

Meloan, who turns 25 on July 11, was 0-0 with a one save and a 5.52 ERA in two starts and 23 relief appearances at Triple-A Columbus.
