--RHP Steve Johnson was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the first round in the Rule 5 Draft. Johnson, who has never pitched above Class-AA, must remain on the big league roster or he'll return to the Orioles. Johnson, the son of former Orioles RHP Dave Johnson who was acquired from the Dodgers in the July trade for George Sherrill, is a Baltimore native and quickly became a prospect of interest to the Baltimore fan base.

--OF Felix Pie has gone from spare part to desirable asset in just six months. A forgotten member of the outfield rotation in May, Pie became a highly discussed topic at the winter meetings. A handful of teams, led by the Royals, expressed interest in trading for Pie, though the Orioles seem content to enter spring training with Pie sharing time in left field with Nolan Reimold.

--RHP Koji Uehara is a late-inning relief candidate and nothing else until he proves himself healthy, manager Dave Trembley told MASNsports.com. Asked if Uehara was a potential closer, Trembley said, "I think you've got to see Koji come into spring training and see if he's healthy. You've got to get him into spring training and see if he's healthy and then decide what's best for him and where he fits in with the team."

--C Chad Moeller signed a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. The 34-year-old played in 30 games for the Orioles as a mentor and backup to Matt Wieters. He'll compete in spring training with Michel Hernandez and Craig Tatum for the reserve spot behind Wieters.

--RHP Alfredo Simon agreed to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, the Baltimore Sun reported. Simon made the Orioles' opening-day rotation in 2009 and started twice before tearing a ligament in his right elbow. He underwent ligament-replacement surgery and is unlikely to be back to full strength at the onset of spring training.
