Guerrero, Prior and Podsednik honored by NL for August

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Montreal outfielder was named National League Player of the Month for August, while starter and Milwaukee centerfielder garnered pitching and rookie honors for their performances during the month. Guerrero batted a .349 with 10 homers and 25 RBI in 28 games for the . Additionally, he hit eight doubles, a triple and scored 21 runs while compiling a slugging percentage of .726. He belted his 226th career home run on August 21, passing Andre Dawson for fifth place on the ' all-time list.

Prior was sparkling in five starts, winning each one. He threw 39 innings with two complete games and 35 strikeouts for the , who are battling for a playoff spot. Prior surrendered just 21 hits and four walks during the month, leading all major league starters in ERA.

Podsednik performed much as he has all season long for the , batting .364 with three homers and 16 RBI during August. He was 39-for-107 in 27 games, belting 10 doubles and scoring 22 runs for the Brew Crew. He also stole 12 bases in beating out five other candidates, including New York teammates and Jason Philips.
